2012 Game 85: Twins at Rangers

For some reason, the Twins merit one of the two late games tonight, so here's hoping we can enjoy three innings of Twins baseball before we all inevitably switch over to the much more important and intriguing Yankees-Red Sox game. Cole DeVries, who has a last name that is pronounced annoyingly, faces Roy Oswalt, who also has a last name that's pronounced annoyingly. And the similarities don't stop there! Actually, they probably do.

It hasn't been much of a first half, but I'll agree with other Citizens of late...it isn't like last year, where the team looked directionless and pathetic in the second half, and it hasn't become a chore to watch my favorite team play my favorite sport. Though they're behind last year's pace by a game or two, this team isn't likely to once again put up a historically awful final couple of months leading into a 99-loss campaign.

Thanks for another enjoyable half-season of game logs, Citizens, and SBG: as always, thanks for making this community possible. Bring this one home, gents. I have a night shift that will rob me of my rightful Sunday ballgame.

Go Twins.

    1. FSN needs to consult with the EA Sports people to get a decent playlist going.

  1. coming into the game, Joe Mauer (.452) had a higher slugging percentage than Justin Morneau (.445)

  2. Oswalt at 49 pitches already- going to be a lot of pitching changes in this one, I think.

  3. email question: what do the non-All Star player do during the All Star break?

    answer: dont get arrested

    1. Someone should explain to Adrian Peterson that it's the same principle that should be applied in the off-season.

  4. I'm not watching, but as loud as that thunderclap sounded, I think they need to get people off the field for a while.

  5. Im guessing the 30 mph wind kept that ball in the ballpark

    morneau destroyed that ball

    1. Doumit and Napoli ran to their dugouts while Oswalt casually strolled off the field.

    1. I'd like to request the Twins to visit South Dakota over the All-Star break and bring their rainmaker with them.

  6. its probably not a good idea to be holding an umbrella while sitting out in the grandstands with lightning in the area.

    1. Wuss-ball. Stand there and take the lightning in your shoulder like a man.

  7. I am a bit surprised that both starting pitchers remained in the game after the rain delay. Not saying it's wrong, and granted it was not a lengthy delay, but it still seems like that isn't done very often these days.

    1. I think I remember hearing somewhere the general rule is 45 minutes, maybe a little longer if they only pitched an inning or less.

    1. When the radio crew started talking about where Pavano was at in his rehab, I realized that I haven't missed Carl at all since he got hurt.

      1. I had to look that name up. wiki says "U L" is has legal first name. awesome.

he was a little before my time

            1. He might have, but I don't remember him with one on his baseball cards. He definitely manages with one.

      1. I recall him saying he was giving up chewing tobacco, so the toothpick might be his substitute.

          1. I picked this trait up from my dad. Neither of us have ever been smokers. I could be anything.

            1. Hamilton has well-known addiction problems, apparently just quit chewing tobacco and it coincided with chewing toothpicks. It could be anything, but why wouldn't it be this?

    1. We have to use Burton and Perkins to protect four-run leads and now we have to go to Fien to protect a one-run lead. Sheesh. It worked out, but it would have been nice to try to use other relievers with a four-run lead. If they start to blow it, then you bring in the top relievers to clean up the mess.

  8. Nathan pitched 40ish pitches last night, and he is back out there tonight

  9. For some reason, the Twins merit one of the two late games tonight

The Rangers almost never have day games during the hottest months. I think July counts.

  10. I probably shouldn't be caring nearly as much as I am about a midseason game for a team with one of the worst records, but man, I really really do.

    1. All these 0-2 offspeed pitches when you got to 0-2 on fastballs are frustrating.

  11. Well, they've already used Ross, Adams and Nathan, so we just need a big inning against their middle relievers.

  12. I would predict a HR. But the way the things are going tonight, one has to super destroy a ball to reach the bleachers.

    1. you missed a couple playing crapping their pants because lightning struck about 2 blocks from the stadium

  13. I see Nick Punto is trending on twitter. I guess he is the clean up batter for the BoSox, and he also slid into first base for a hit

      1. actually, i thought that was established long ago. what he's still doing here, i'm not sure.

  14. Man, I'd like this one to be over sooner than later as I have to pack my TV, but I'd like our team to win. I may go to bed disappointed.

  15. I'm ok with it being done. I guess. Twins offense didn't do a single thing in extras.

  16. It's not that it was a bad road trip; it's just that it could have been substantially better. Still, that's baseball. We'll just have to settle for 113-49!
