the sisters haim (+1) performing this year in austin. i’m still processing this, but it’s something for sure. okay, so who is this dawes guy y’all freakin’ out about? ooohhh, dawes is the band… this week we’re going to take a look at some highlights from the recent SXSW. not just for this little band that you’ve probably never heard of before anymore, there’s a wide breadth of artists performing and we hope to showcase a few of them. and we’re kind of bored. i’m away from the office right now. please leave a message after the beep. 1973 it took awhile, but, yeah, i dig this album. one of the things i love about living in chicago is that there are so many bands coming through that i never get to see! like this guy that’s coming through tonight… i’m wondering how tongue in cheek this is… i will admit to liking this song for reasons i’m not completely sure of. oh well. 1976 up next: ROWSDOWER WEEK! i’m a sucker for cute accents. this is a book: they work like this: they have words and stuff and communicate language. did you read any lately? i’m still wondering how they’re powering that keyboard. jimmy cliff, being awesome. seriously though, when were those jackets ever fashionable? 1970 my friend’s band came into town over the weekend (and i’d play them if they had a decent-ish video available). traveling with them was black diet (formerly JT and the sloppy seconds), who put on an amazing set. they’re playing all over the cities, and i HIGHLY recommend checking out a show if you get [...] dude, i have the same outift in my closet. 1971 i hereby declare it to be white boy funky friday! hey, everyone. i wanted to type up something more interesting and relevant in an attempt to resurrect this series, but i’m stuck in meetings and typing this from my phone. the main point here is to solicit volunteers for future months posts. topics can be on whatever you feel like (see previous entries for ideas). [...] everybody loves good ol’ townsy. 1983 this one’s for the kooch. i only have their first album so far, but damn if it isn’t catchy. many, many thanks to sheenie for an awesome guest DJ week. to hang a coda on it, here’s a nawlins institution: the honorable professor longhair. i really wish i could have found a performance of “misery“, but this is essential the same song, though the words are a bit mushier. |
