A big thanks goes out to philo for sharing his musical journey with us. Now for something totally different.* *Some coarse language towards the end, so NSFW(ish) While the normal guys sleep in I thought I would provide a hopeful thought for this afternoon. Bonnaroo, 2011 in the internet age, i feel having a ridiculously generic name doesn’t really do you any favors. Holy Cats, these folks make a lot of noise, but the competing elements are glued together by Teal Gardner’s voice. I wasn’t a huge fan of their initial release, but their newest album The Trusted Language is excellent. i’m still not convinced on these guys… *(can someone hook up the title of this song? i listened to it this morning, but didn’t have time to cross-reference it with the album (dunno all the song titles) before i ran out the door) pepper with the assist. the sisters haim (+1) performing this year in austin. i’m still processing this, but it’s something for sure. I loves me a rockin’ trio from Scotland. one of the things i love about living in chicago is that there are so many bands coming through that i never get to see! like this guy that’s coming through tonight… i’m wondering how tongue in cheek this is… i’m a sucker for cute accents. i’m still wondering how they’re powering that keyboard. my friend’s band came into town over the weekend (and i’d play them if they had a decent-ish video available). traveling with them was black diet (formerly JT and the sloppy seconds), who put on an amazing set. they’re playing all over the cities, and i HIGHLY recommend checking out a show if you get [...] this one’s for the kooch. i only have their first album so far, but damn if it isn’t catchy. with my newfound interest in these guys i was surprised to find that they’ve never been played here before. so, these guys are pretty cool. don’t worry, i did the legwork. it checks out. I stumbled onto Delta Spirit earlier last year via spotify (before the book of faces ruined it), and was really taken with their album Ode to Sunshine. The rest? Not so much. But I do like this track. #1 on pitchfork’s Top 100 Tracks of 2012 list. dunno, if this and “pyramids” are the final two choices, i gotta go with the latter. two quick points: 1. thanks to bS for covering the xmas day post. twas i that dropped the christmas ball, not the meated one. 2. my mentioning of the “bad dancing” tag in meat’s vid yesterday reminded me of this video that i wanted to play before, but it was a little too close to [...] These guys were getting a lot of press, so, yeah. I’m back in the sweet part of the states, you guys. I’ve missed Minnesota ever since we alighted for the territories, but it’s just now dawning on me that I haven’t lived here in almost a decade. That’s hard to believe. the brooklynite band guards with a stripped down take. |
