2011 Game 18: twins at ORIOLES

image

According to mlb.com Blac_burn "is 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA in four career appearances against the Orioles."  Change the ERA to 3.06 and you have pitching joe's numbers for this season. I refuse to look up any more stats for Nick, as with the way this week has gone ignorance is bliss.

But I do think he's been pitching well this season. Hail Blackbeard the Pirate Ace who loves hitting the plank.

The Orioles are having some Britton toeing the rubber tonight. I plan on asking him who designed Kate's dress, then make fun of him for his questionable dental hygene.

If my luck holds out this will be the third year in a row that I go to the MN/Balt tilt that gets rained out. Maybe I have time to make a circle this Bert poster of Baker looking at a pen of bulls.

Take it away Boys, Go Twins!

  1. I don't think I ever experienced a single rain delay in my years of attending every Twins-O's game in Baltimore. Of course, I did go to an early season O's-Red Sox game one year that lasted 13 innings with the final 3 or 4 being played in snow.

  2. I dont think there will be a delay tonight. currently 86 degrees. mostly cloudy is the forecast

      1. I once took an intern there who didn't recognize one of the condiments as horseradish - he thought it was cole slaw or something. Until we got settled into our seats and he took his first bite...

    1. I've had the same problem with ESPN broadcasts before. The reason is that there's also a local (FSNN) broadcast. Since Iowa is inside the Twins broadcast area, the game is blacked out. This is the case despite the fact that most cable providers do not provide FSNN within Iowa.

      1. This. (I've understood that this is why, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.)

        1. Unfortunately, I saw the name "Muhammad del Fuego" on the FBI's Most Wanted list at the post office today.

              1. Fortunately, Spooky has been volunteered to come in and write the next Unfortunately.

                  1. Fortunately, the game is over now, so you guys can concentrate your creative juices.

                    1. Unfortunately, I have to go do laundry, so I'm going to be watching the game on delay for a while.

    1. but strikeouts cost you points. I do remember Dick whining about that last year. Same as any other out, he said.

      1. so, there are productive strikeouts?

I suppose, for those that involve a passed ball.

  3. Dick saying that Tolbert is a single hitter and he gets a double or triple here and there. He had 104 career hits and 8 of those are triples, that equates out to every 13 hits is a triple

    1. Ted Robinson is back huh? How has he been? I really liked him as an announcer back in the day.

  4. I have to say neither that swing nor Cuddyer's would have been a homer in Target Field

  5. Andino and Pauer have raised their season average a combined .748* points this series

    *may not be entirely accurate

  6. did I hear that right, Bill Smith said he is not concerned about the lack of runs

  7. Waterfront redo in Baltimore was well done. They have these watertaxis that ferry you around the harbor, cheap and frequent. A good outing is to buzz over to Fell Point for shopping/restaurants.

    1. my house is dry, but the way this series is going, i might go hit up the mouthwash.

      1. I try to keep telling myself that they can't possibly suck this bad all season. Right?.... Right?

    2. Had Peak Organic King Crimson last night (Imperial Red Ale). Was quite nice - full bodied beaut.

  8. I'm back to live!

Also, it looks like I'm going to be able to get my poker money out of my account!

    1. Speaking of sports humor, I heard Reusse on the radio today absolutely gushing over Norm Macdonald's new show on Comedy Central. Haven't seen it yet, but I'm a big fan of Norm.

Note to self... DVR Norm's show before it gets canceled.

      1. its all right, but its only a couple shows in. It has a SNL 'Weekend Update' feel to it, but also has some taped pieces

      2. I like Norm fairly well too. Deadpan comics are generally my favorite.

Fun fact, though: he has one of the most boring Twitter feeds out there.

      1. There was the crazy A's game, but other than that - not many hits to extend rallies.

  9. yay, danny. another weakly hit ball bleeding through the infield (i'll still take it).

  10. Time for more laundry. I'll hopefully catch up with you guys by the end of the game.

    1. Well, if I have to be completely wrong, I guess this is a good time for it to happen.

  11. Hamburgers, Bush's Best baked beans, Fritos, and a Blue Paddle. I was literally grilling in the sleet and rain while the sun was shining. Bloody weather.

    1. Leftover jollof rice we made when we had our host student from Sierra Leone at the house.

        1. It's basically less spicy jambalaya. It's very interesting to see how much the New Orleans cuisine that Sheenie grew up with is completely derivative of the West African cuisine that our host student grew up with.

  12. Robinson now in the Twin-squawk-booth. I see he has some French Open experience. No cricket.

          1. My daughters are always amazed, and a bit horrified, when I strike up conversations with total strangers in public places.

              1. Seriously though, why is Holm playing more than Butters? Butters isn't much, but Holm seems worse.

                1. gardy goes by role, not performance. butters is a backup catcher. i don't see what's so hard about this.

          1. Maybe Morneau isn't available- otherwise you'd think HOLM or Tolbert wouldn't have been up there swinging.

    1. Kevin Gregg. Two first names. One more and he'd be a convicted serial killer.

            1. I contend that the "c" takes it out of first name qualification. But I am a strict traditionalist. And even "Marshall" to me is more of a last name used as a first name than vice versa. YMMV.

              1. Not sure it's about my mileage, man. Marshall is a first name, and I know at least three or four of them.

One is over 50. Is that not traditional enough (alright, the "c" is still pretty goofy)? I just don't want to deny Kevin Gregg his serial killer status, you know?

                1. I am somewhat playing Devil's advocate here, because I do know one guy named "Marshall" (no "c"). Honestly, though, I know more people who have it for a last name. But I do agree with you on Kevin Gregg.

      1. It was moderately better than the one yesterday where he looked at 3 pitches right down the middle.

    1. That does make me feel a bit better. Helps that they are doing it at comparatively full strength as well.

  13. Well, I think it's high time to do some QC on the beer I bought today and get some reading done.

  14. things could be worse: the Pale Hose have a 7 game losing streak or our team could be bankrupt and run by MLB
