  1. Nathan immediately gave up a double to Kurt Suzuki before intentionally walking Ryan Sweeney, but was able to strike out Mark Ellis looking and induce pinch-hitter Conor Jackson to ground out to quall the potential rally.

"Quall"? D@mn those late night west coast game deadlines!

    1. with news of that study that came out the other day, and the sheer magnitude of coffee i drink a day, i believe that i'm not only covered on aggressive prostate cancer, i have the ability to inflict it upon others.

  2. Joe Nathan now has 13 strikeouts in 14 innings and has 10 strikeouts and just three walks in his last 7 2/3 innings. In that stretch, opponents are hitting just .214 with one home run against him. I don't know if he can be consistently effective this year, but if he can be used late in games in combination with Perkins and a healthy Mijares, they could form a pretty good back of the bullpen along with Capps.

    1. I think there is an effective back end of the bullpen forming, I just worry about overuse. Every game the Twins are winning is close with high leverage situations from the 6th inning on. Gardy just can't use these guys over and over (particularly Nathan) every night. Another example where the offense coming around could cure a lot of what ails this team.

  3. bS - Your pinto beans were great. I made them with some brown rice and pork chops. Mo chailín was also very impressed. Halving the recipe looks to be just about perfect for the two of us - big dinner with leftovers for lunch, but not a lot of excess food left over.

    1. So, if mo chailin was impressed, maybe she will just turn a blind eye to your wgom participation...

        1. Also, this is probably only of interest to me, but to me she's "mo chailín" ("my girl"), but to you lot shes's "do chailín" ("your girl") Just learned that one.

I'm guessing she's mo chailín to Beau, too...

  4. all right, i’ve worked up a tentative schedule for the “father knows best” column (is that a crass enough title? any better suggestions?) for the next few months with a little help from a random number generator:

    26-may: rob
    9-jun: brianS
    23-jun: punmanbowler
    7-jul: FT“hm”LT
    21-jul: freealonzo
    11-aug: hungry joe
    25-aug: Algonad
    8-sep: cheaptoy
    22-sep: SBG
    13-oct: spookymilk
    27-oct: Can o’ Corn

if anyone wants to do any date trading, or has any conflicts, let us know and we’ll switch it around. also, if anyone else wants in on the fun, by all means, throw your hat in.

    1. If Algonad would consider trading with me... The Boy's birfday is late in August, and he will be starting his senior year in h.s.

    1. That was a heck of a catch by Revere. Looking forward to seeing him, Span, and one of the other prospects (Benson or Hicks) together in the outfield in the next couple of seasons. We can keep Kubel to DH, please.

      1. I was daydreaming about that kind of outfield the other day. I thought for some reason Benson was in AAA and almost ready, so I was a little sad he's probably not ready until 2013 or so. I agree with keeping around Kube as a DH, but in my dream he plays outfield a couple of days a week to slide Morneau to DH and Mauer to 1B or Mauer to DH.

In general, I'd just like a roster that's more versatile. Right now the team has too many set roles and it seems to hamstring the team. You have to burn two roster moves to PH Thome if he gets on base. None of those guys can hit worth a darn should they come back up to hit.

  5. Dillon Gee had a no-no going for the Mets through 5 2/3. He gave up a hit with 2 outs in the 6th to...

    Livan Hernandez.

    1. Please let him throw a one hitter, Please let him throw a one hitter, Please let him throw a one hitter.

    1. All the more reason for implementing Ubelmann's draft suggestions of the other day.

    2. I've never seen that before. I don't think it was rigged, but that is a crappy way of doing it. The ping pong balls is a much better way.

      1. The original reason the draft lottery was instituted was to prevent teams from intentionally tanking at the end of the season. The way they did it then at least accomplished that goal. The current system doesn't do that at all, which begs the question--why is there still a draft lottery at all?

        1. My guess is that at this point, the lottery is another NBA event that draws viewers and helps promote their draft day event. In the big picture, I think that reducing the incentive to tank at the end of the season is more important, but looking just at the lottery itself, it's probably seen as a money maker.

        2. My issue wasn't with the weight, but the method of putting the cards in a bin and manually lifting them out instead of using a mechanism like a lottery machine.

    1. According to Dazzle, that happened because he was wearing actual sunglasses and not the flip-down type.

      1. Curt Schilling on MLB Network said Torii did everything right except catch the ball.
