2011 Game 55: Twins at Royals

The good news is that it's the Royals! The bad news is that we're still the Twins, and we're as injured as ever.

Anthony Soulsister 0-2, 15 IP, 3.60 ERA, 4.80 FIP, 5.06 xFIP, 0.0 fWAR
Sean O'Sullivan 2-4, 50.2 IP, 6.75 ERA, 6.05 FIP, 5.47 xFIP, -0.5 fWAR

I may never say this again, but this pitching matchup seems to favor Sickleshuffle pretty heavily. O'Sullivan is out of his element as a starter in MLB, as he wasn't even that good in AAA. This year his Ks are down and his walks are way up in what's not all that small a sample anymore.

O'Sullivan's a righty, too, so he doesn't even qualify as a Jeremy.

Can the Twins win some games in June? Can they start a bona fide winning streak tonight? Hey, if Drew Butera can hit a home run (with a runner on base, even!), I can believe anything.

    1. I like how Gardy put the player that everyone acknowledges has the noodliest of noodle arms in the (outfield) position where its most important. Not that I'm surprised considering all of his other lineup quirks.

  2. I remember when Span starting with a hit meant good things.
It doesn't seem to be the same harbinger of good times that it used to.

    1. That's really unfortunate given how many runs we're likely to score tonight.

  3. I predict it will be tied 9-9 after 9 innings. I don't know how it will end.

    1. He must have done something amazing, my Gameday has been frozen for five minutes.

    1. If he would've gotten his foot out of the way there's a good chance Revere could've scored on a wild pitch.

      1. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let's not get carried away here! There's only so much we can ask of him.

      2. I'm not sure. It might have been that wild because it deflected off Tolbert's foot.

  4. Atteberry and Dazz: "Mike Aviles, GOML"

Dazz called him a "pretty boy" and Atteberry said he wanted to keep his jersey clean. Oy.

  5. Mountie with the hit, but he's still pulling the down & away stuff...can't wait till he's shooting those to the gap in left center again.

  6. One run in and two runners in scoring position with nobody out? What is going on???

    1. Surprised it wasn't a double steal, that would've been a little more understandable.

  7. Thanks. Takes a run off the board. No outs, two on, and you are starting to pound the pitcher. Why do you try to steal third with a mediocre baserunner?

  8. Cuddyer! Just because they give us an extra out doesn't mean we have to give it back.

    1. Revere is a True Outcomes guy. He just needs the HR for the 3TO cycle. Think of it as hitting Yahtzee. It could happen.

  9. Holy Tolbertin' cr@p!

I take it all back about Dazz, Atteberry on O'Sullivan. He must really suck.

    1. He let Tolbert get on base...twice. That's never happened before in 382 career games.

        1. Are you sure? I might have to double check my sports almanac for inaccuracies.

  10. If Cuddy doesn't try to steal third, then the shortstop's positioning is different on the next pitch and Delmon hits into a double play instead of a single. That's how much of a team player he is.

    1. Maybe you're watching a replay from '10? I say, just sit back and enjoy it.

  11. peckish jane came in and was wondering if she could watch her show on the TV. however, she saw the score and said, "oh, nevermind, this might not happen again for awhile."

not sure what to think about that.

    1. I think Casilla should have run down the first base line and slid head first into first after the ball went foul.....

    1. Welcome to the party. This one is all me: I'm watching the game live rather than on DVR and I shaved my beard...Can you say "Win Twins"?

        1. Yeah, it was pretty drastic for me too. But something had to change and I don't play for the Twins...

  12. Hey guys, I'm back! Miss me? Think the bullpen can hold a 6 run lead for 3 innings?

  13. Dazzle shocked that Alex Gordon and his tight T-shirt are not on the All-Star ballot. So glad I get to listen to the Twins broadcast.

  14. We managed to avoid the normal 8th inning tragedy there. It didn't look good, what with Burnett in and a leadoff triple and all.

  15. Cuddyer probably should not have swung at that curveball 9 feet off the plate.

  16. Here comes Capps! It's a good thing we didn't have any use for him in any of those Detroit games so he'd be fresh to protect our 6-run lead tonight!

    1. I love how the fireworks and puppies have combined to this new, gorier celebration.

        1. OK, that was pretty funny and much less bloody than I thought the combination would be.

          1. If that dog's name is lady luck and those people are the Twins, I think that is a nice metaphor for this season.

    1. You're not allowed around here until we're back in first, or officially eliminated.
