2011 Game 56: Twins at Royals

Carl Pavano v Danny Duffy.

Pavano seems to be repeating his 2009. Unfortunately, the Twins are the recipients of the poor performance.

Duffy decided to return to baseball in 2010 and racked up some frequent flyer miles proving himself. Seven games with the Rafters (which B-R doesn't even list and I can't corroborate), two games with a rookie team (Arizona), two more with another rookie team (Idaho), three games at A+ (Delaware), and finally seven games at AA (Arkansas).

He averaged more than a strikeout per inning in the minors while walking three per nine innings. The strikeouts followed him, but the control lagged some. The number of free passes issued has monotonically decreased. I don't expect the Twins to change that.

  1. Hate to start out the game log like this, but I need a pinch hitter for tonight's game recap. I've got a nasty clog in the kitchen sink and I'm getting ready for daughter's graduation on Sunday. Then I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wife to murder, and Gilder to blame for it. I'm swamped.

I posted this in the CoC as well, so any volunteers should check there and see if anyone else has volunteered. Thanks!

    1. Take care of yourself, Twayn. If you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything.

  2. Alright, I'm serving up goat cheese, roasted poblano, caramelized onion and chicken pizza with a tall boy of highlife.

    1. I haz a sad, cuz that sounds great. We are going to a grajeation partay for the daughter of friends.

    2. turkey sandwich (I wish for a turkey sandwich, on
rye bread, with lettuce and mustard, and, I don't want any zombie
turkeys, I don't want to turn into a turkey myself, and I don't want any
other weird surprises. You got it?/Simpsons), kettle chips, and a Sprite

  3. i can't blame span for trying that at all. i've got the royals broadcast, and they didn't really show a definitive angle, so i don't know the true call, but it was close enough that you can justify him being call out.

    and good evening, all.

    1. Good evening, sir.

That play took a good throw, blocked plate, and was exciting as hell to watch.

      1. fo sho. as soon as i saw him approaching 3rd and no slowing, puffed cheeks, reaching for something out of the well, all i could do was yell, "go, man, go!"

        ah well.

    2. With 2 out and Casilla on deck, you definitely go there. He would have been safe too, were it not for the stupid rule that catchers can block the plate without the ball.

  4. i totally didn't see that flyout to center because of those durned trees out there.

  5. Casilla is playing good baseball lately. Where was this at the beginning of the year?

  6. royals b-cast shows that the dazzle man wears his glove in the booth. huh.

      1. hmm, guess so. of course the KC guys both pulled out a glove for the camera after that, so...

        1. are you trying actual embed codes? if so, don't. just use the actual URL of the youtube vid, and add a "v" after the "http".

  7. hmm, if we score a run, we can avoid a capptastic 9th, but, then we'd utilize a different part of the bullpen.

    1. when i was a younger lad, we'd put tiger balm on our eyelids to "see god".

i never said we were smart.

        1. heh. would it help to explain things if i said that ol' syd (sans floyd, even) was one of the artists in our rotation?

  8. Complete Game for Pavano.

A chance to win the first 4-game series tomorrow.

    1. as i'm sure there are less than 10 people here, we should be safe to post this.

        1. On the way up New England tonight, we stopped in Manchester, N.H. at a local joint called Strange Brew for burgers/beers. I had the local IPA (Smuttynose), and NBBW had the Hop-devil (Maine). Both were quite good.

NH blues Cats Lex and Joe were setting up while we ate. Got to hear numerous riffs including some Dixieland clarinet, a Dylan dedication, and some scraping bass sax before we hit the road. Talented close work by the trio.
