Monday MLS Mayhem – Back from Hiatus

Sorry about the gap in coverage.  My conference, then getting caught up at work interfered with my screwing around during the day.  Here's the results since I last reported listed chronologically oldest to neswest.  The list got kinda long, so it's after the jump.

News

  • Sporting KC opened their new home at Livestrong Park last week.
  • Eric Hassil for the Whitecaps with a nominee for Goal of the Year

  • Gold Cup - The US managed to lose to Panama. I missed the game, but reactions were not good. Just thought I'd throw that out there if anyone else wanted to comment.

  1. That Hassli goal sure took the wind out of our sails. Sure, Parke (I think it was Parke who mis-hit the ball) should never have let the ball get to Hassli, but still, that's ridiculous.

    1. Seeing DeMerit playing for the Caps made me mad. The USMNT could've used him Saturday night against Panama.

That goal was nuts though. Even though I was watching it by myself I let out an audible "what the f..k".

  2. I didn't see the US-Panama game due to the Sounders-Whitecaps game, but the US is bound to lose to that kind of team every now and then. These four-team round-robin groups are fraught with small sample size and the US isn't fielding anything like a dominant side these days.

The Whitecaps supporters were a lot more fun to have around than the Timbers supporters. The Timbers supporters just pick a song and sing it for fifteen minutes at a time, which gets a bit old. The Caps supporters were more into chanting stuff, some more clever than others. At one point they started chanting "Sup-er-sonics," which was pretty low, so our section (not the supporters section) responded with a a healthy "Let's go Boston." Which kind of hurt to say, but it had to be done. The Caps supporters responded with a "We have health care" chant, and there was just no response to that one. (I would like to see them try that one in Texas, though.)

    1. I'm sure if they had a big enough caravan(say 100 people) they could easily out-chant the hardcore FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo supporters.

Watching any game in the middle of the summer there, no matter how late, is brutal.

  3. As is noted in the next to last scoreline, the Chicago Fire won their first game since March 26th.

The Twins have won 26 games in the time span.

    That is all.

  4. I just found this Timbers/Alaskan Airlines commerical and wanted to share it before I forgot next week.
