2011 Game 73: Twins at Giants

2:45 Central? What kind of goofy game time is that? Programming Note: This is the MLB.tv free game of the day.

The Dunce 4-6, 74.2 IP, 4.82 ERA, 3.59 FIP, 3.96 xFIP, 1.3 WAR
The Freak 5-6, 98.1 IP, 3.39 ERA, 3.02 FIP, 3.07 xFIP, 2.2 WAR

You know, I saw some mainstream junk asking what Lincecum(5-6)'s problem was this year, and I gotta tell ya: looks like the answer is "nothing." Score some runs for him, and he'll beat the other team every time. He's again on pace to throw a total buttload of innings; how long is that arm going to hold out? Is he that once-in-a-generation guy who can do that? I hope so, 'cause I always liked him.

Meanwhile, Duensing also has been better than his mainstream numbers suggest, though certainly nowhere near as good as Lincecum. This isn't a game to be betting on the Twins, though it would be nice to steal a win before the Wolves amuse and depress us all at another draft tonight.

Two more days until Thome and Twitchy are back, right? I've been trying not to say "When the Twins are all healthy" because I'm not convinced it's ever going to happen, but wouldn't it be awesome?

    1. For some reason, in my head it was Wednesday today, although I knew it was my game log so on some level I knew it was Thursday. Oops.

  1. There's not much physical resemblance in terms of looks, but Lincecum makes me think of Ron Guidry.

  2. I can't see this game at work. I was hoping a company IP might show up as SF since that's where corporate HQ is.

As I typed that I realized even if that was the case, they're playing the Giants. Never mind.

On a semi-relate note, the Dodgers were the free game yesterday. I enjoyed listening to Vin Scully.

        1. It was a reverse-jinx. Going out of my way to mention it so that he kept it going, since my every prediction ends in catastrophic ruin.

Psh... don't you know how this works?

            1. Admittedly my plans very rarely do.

Mostly I used his nickname because I like the idea of today's matchup being "The Freak against The Dunce". It has a ring to it that makes it seem like a way bigger deal than it is.

        1. Just pointing out how bizarre it is. He's walked fifteen lefties throughout his career in over 330 plate appearances. I wonder how close that is to average.

    1. Well, see, you start to get cute, and then all of the sudden it's 3-1 and you can't find the strike zone.

  3. gotta run; my consulting company is having an open house, and when you telecommute, there aren't many opportunities to pig out meet with the office staff

  4. The Twins should be looking to walk. Lincecum's stuff today is just too good to flail hopelessly at.

    1. Thankfully, or that might have been too much for today's offense to come back from.

    2. Not sure that was an out at home- sure looked like the runner got his hand on the plate first.

      1. In this era of baseball umpiring, the ump probably decided to interpret the rule book to mean only feet touching home plate can count.

  5. For a 1-0 game, I sure don't have much hope that the Twins are going to pull this one out...

      1. I wish that meant "because he's going to bat for some reason and hit a home run".

  6. OK folks, I'm heading to my car to cuss at the radio on my drive home- win this one for me!

  7. Well, I finally get my chance to say that I am heading home from work mid-gamelog. Score some runs in my absence, please, Twins.

  8. Lopez has been pretty much untouchable most of the season. (excepting 5/25 and 6/11)

  9. Alright, I just wasted the last couple of hours creating an archives tab for Spookymilk Survivor. I believe the Twins were waiting to score until I could give the game my full attention. So, let's go.

  10. Brain fart there by Sandoval, too bad that couldn't have turned into a break.

  11. A superb start by Duensing, a great start by Lincecum, both bullpens give up 1R.
