  1. Good lord. I think I'd rather have Mauer at 1b than to have to play Raging Tonsils AND the Replicant. But mebbe not.

Let's hope that Swansteak has a good day. They are gonna need it.

        1. I fly in on the 22nd. H.s. reunion in Spamtown on the 23rd. A couple of days in the Cities, then to my parents' through the weekend. The Boy and I return west on the 1st.

I've mentioned on FB the desire to meet up with availables if possible on the 24th. The game is probably out, however.

          1. I'm a Luddite when it comes to FB, if the good Dr. and I are around the cities we'll have to split a pitcher of premium.

  2. Sweet Danny V. tried to chomp off a finger there. Would've been better to just nibble.

    1. Eff. Runners at the corners and nobody out. Run expectancy is about 1.8. And we get bupkus, and will LIKE IT.

    1. Not doing the little things, to be sure. But can't anyone on this team hit a freakin' fly ball with a man on third and less than two outs?

  3. Dazzle spinning yarns about his saladnori days in Japan, how they miss him, etc.

    1. speaking of which, I picked up a pint of seaweed salad from Costco yesterday. Pretty tasty.

      1. Nice. For vegan nacht earlier this week, I made little nori wraps - slices of avocado and carrot, fried tofu, and peapods (from NBB garden).

  4. It's pretty funny that Peavy was acquired essentially to help the Hosers get over the hump with the Twins, it took him this long to face them for the first time, and the no-names are smacking him around.

  5. If Crappy Repko and crappier Butera are paper cutting you to death you know it is GOSO for the White Sox.

      1. The White Sox would finish in last place in the International League. Congrats on beating up on a minor league team, Minnesota.

  6. Happiness == having a home-brew Surly, whilst 35 minutes into the boil on my next batch.

      1. Really good. I bought a 4-pack last time in Minny, and brought back to CT. NBBW did a taste-to-taste comparison between the official product and mine. She said a very slight difference (might have been my boil-over after adding the DME - I was much more careful this time).

          1. Same kit - Northern Brewer's Surly Furious - Pro Series.

What sets it apart from other beers I've made is the dry hops added in secondary fermentation. It's this mongo batch of hop pellets (5 oz. Simcoe, 2.5 oz Ahtanum, 0.5 Warrior, 0.5 oz Amarillo) - creates a very thick (1.75 inch) foam on the top of the batch in the carboy - downside is a little decrease in overall yield.

            1. I'm on my way back to the motherland and will be retuning to texas with a furious kit. I'm pretty happy that they released their recipes to the homebrewer

              1. Was just down in Austin, TX last weekend to visit some friends. Hadn't been there in ~25 years. Man has that town growed up real good. Nice night scene, great restaurants, pubs.

To escape the 100F, got in some quality swims at Deep Eddy pool (great coldwater 43M outdoor pool).

                1. I love, love, love Austin in a way that makes it unclear to me how it can be part of Texas.

In West Texas, I went into one restaurant. Everyone stared, and a total stranger called me a f*&^ot.

                2. I was at barton springs a couple of weeks ago, water temp was 67 degrees. Refreshing.

                  1. Did a sprint triathlon three weeks back - had been raining with no sun for several days prior - water temp was 65F. Bracing.

I swam the first third of it with my head out of the water.

  7. just watched the USWNT highlights over Brazil. Wow, what a tight "encroachment" call on the first Marta penalty kick. Technically correct, I suppose. But bogus. And that Wambach goal was beautiful. What a pass. And Wambach is pretty much the only woman in the world who gets that ball. Awesome.

  8. 1st and 3rd, nobody out. How can we fial this time? Or have we shifted into "embarrassing the Sawks" stage?

    1. The insights more than make up for his lack of a radio/tv voice (which could be developed) It seems the longer someone stays in the booth the more stupid and worthless they become with their assessments. Its not like TK knows a lot more about the game than Blyleven does but Bert is so concerned with being cute and entertaining that his analysis lacks.

      1. He's gotten better with his delivery, and I love the way he apologizes to Richard for talking over him. Bert never seems to notice that there is a ballgame happening while he's talking.

    2. i'm pissed i'm missing him this series. stoopid blackout rules. who in their right mind would want to listen to the hawk?

  9. Dazz: "Chicago White Sox, when it comes to fundamentals, are horrendous."

what was Mauer doing there, Liddle?

    1. He's in what I call 'resigned that we suck against the Twins' mode. This is a fun thing to listen to but it rarely provokes his anti-ump tirades "gotta put it in a teacup!" or his irrational fight baiting "cmon Burly, put it in the earhole!"

  10. "Minnesota just doing the little things." -Hawk

Against the White Sox, yeah. That's why it's so much fun to play them.

  11. Okay, then.

i knew gordon shouldn't have angered the god of the homosexuals.

    he’s a twins fan.

        1. those kinds of jokes were funny when we were young and stupid. Oh, wait. Beckham is young and stupid.

  12. Wow. No correct answers on the trivia question yet. 1985 A-Ss who played for the Twins at some point.

Herr, G. Nettles, T. Kennedy?, Winfield, Morris, Reardon, Blyleven, Bruno, Ward.

  13. Cuddy now up to .299. His MLB career high is .284. He hit .309 in half a season at AAA in 2002 and .301 in a full season of AA in 2001.

    1. If only we had a pitcher with two first names to take his place.

      1. mebbe Tommy John, Nolan Ryan, Dizzy Dean, Satchel Paige, Cliff Lee, Gaylord Perry, Jim Perry...

        1. Grover Cleveland (Pete) Alexander, Steve Carlton, Lefty Gomez, Waite Hoyt, Addie Joss, Jim Palmer, Babe Ruth, Dazzy Vance, Hoyt Wilhelm, Monte Ward....

  14. Teahan got 3 right down the middle and waved through the last one. Nice pitching, Burnett.

    1. Ill hit up some of my old Japanese acquaintances for the real baseball lingo. Google Translate leaves much to be desired in this area.

  15. I really prefer the "embarrass the hell out of them" wins over the ChiSox to the "cut their hearts out, then let them crawl back in" wins.

      1. Since he was hurt when the deal was made, I never was that upset with it. They traded one of their starters out of their rotation in a pennant race for Peavy, who could only make a handful of starts. They had a terrible time filling the spot for Clayton until Peavy came back and by then it was too late if memory serves.

    1. Yankees likely to make more money on that documentary than the Royals annual payroll.

  16. At least Perkins can go more than one and pitch effectively. He definitely needs to stay out of the closer role so he can be used the most to maximize his value. I'd still rather have Nathan closing, though. His innings are being limited anyways.

  17. A Hosmer double puts the tying run on 2nd with nobody out for the Royals. C'mon, Royals!

      1. I'm wondering if that wasn't trying to advance on a wild pitch? That would make more sense, but wow that is disappointing.

  18. Why do two-out triples disappoint me? Although ensuring Cuddyer comes up with two men on base does please me.

    1. Awesome! One of the few ways Casilla needed to be on third to score! Woo-hoo!

  19. 3 really isn't enough for Crapps, but it leaves a little more room to pull him.

    1. to be fair, a lot of people swing and miss at Santos' slider. its so darn natsy

    1. Don't say that around Capps, he might trample someone trying to get to the burgers!

      1. Which is why it is always better to be hittable than wild. Of course, if Capps was wild, he wouldn't be the closer anymore.

    1. 6.5 back. That divisional stretch out of the break will really shake things out.

      1. Twins are closer to first place in the division than they were in both 2003 and 2006 at the All-Star break. Twins are 24-11 since June 2.

        1. I can't believe they still have a chance after the way this season started, but I'll take it!

    1. I like that one even better than the three puppy one, bootsy! That kinda looks like the Eye of Sauron on top, though.
