  1. A FOX Saturday afternoon game on TV involving the Twins and not including a Chicago team?

This happens like once every four years. Surely a sign.

  2. In honor of this upcoming trouncing, I've killed a tiger and am going to eat it for dinner.

    1. In honor of Scott Baker day, I've killed a baker and am going to eat him for dinner.

      1. Yep. I understand the regionality of it. What I don't understand is why I paid top dollar to watch my favorite team, only to have my favorite team be put on Fox and then not be able to watch them. I paid for this!! We have the technology available so all the Fox games could go on Extra Innings so you can watch whatever one you want to, but they just choose not to do it.

  3. I love how HPR has chosen that Nishioka is his favorite Twin for absolutely no reason. That's my boy.

(If your favorite player is one of the best players on the team, you've got to share him with everyone. If he's a AAAA reliever or middle infielder, you've got him to yourself. When he's older, I'll explain that Japanese players don't follow that rule, because they've got huge numbers of fans back home.)

In other news, good over-the-air reception on the hand-me-down HD TV today!

    1. I've been struggling to connect with anyone on the team like that for a few years now, for reasons that aren't particularly clear to me. Maybe I've gotten to a point where I root for the franchise more than any particular player. Where this becomes a problem is when it comes time to buy a Twins shirt to wear - there aren't any I feel drawn to on the current roster. The closest I'd probably get is Danny V, I think, but I'm guessing he has a substantial youngish female fanbase. Mrs. Hayes has a Thome t-shirt, which is cool, but I can't wear the same one.

Now, if someone offered a shirt with #9 on it (Gene Larkin or Mickey Hatcher) I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

      1. That can be a good thing. You can go to the clearance rack and pick out whatever ones are available. You won't have to pay top dollar for your favorite player.

        1. Sure, but what I'm saying is that I don't feel like wearing any of them. I'd rather buy one without a name on it, just a number, even if it looks less "authentic" than the ones with a name on the back (obvious exceptions for numbers 3, 6, 29, 14, 34, and 28).

Although maybe someone could interest me in a Stelmaszek or Gardenhire t-shirt. Or (definitely) a Tom Kelly shirt.

          1. I'm feeling the same way this season. Usually, during our return trip to the motherland I purchase a twins shirt with my crush of the year, but this year I can't bring myself to drop 22-25$ on any of them. Although, I am still contemplating a thome.... Maybe thome is my homie will satisfy my need to stimulate the econonly.

        2. This is why I have a game-used #51 DePaula.
I bought a #2 Span Tee last week at Target. Remaining options were that or Young in my size and desired red.
Though I could have paid $3 more for a high-tech Nathan in blue. This was right after he was named closer again, so I was tempted.

          1. One reason I went with Denard is that I had completely written him off as a draft bust about a year before his MLB debut. So I consider everything with him to be gravy.

        3. If they're too obscure, they don't make shirts for them.
Other than the game-used bargain rack, I never saw anything with "Mulholland" on the back, which would have been my #1 choice when I was looking for clothes earlier last decade.

          1. Yeah, it's hard to find anything featuring an obscure player unless you're going the game-worn route.

What is less understandable is why they don't just offer ones with only a number on back. I'm sure there are plenty of people who wouldn't mind wearing a Twins t-shirt with "their" number on it. MLB hasn't met a revenue stream it doesn't love to exploit, so this seems like an oversight.

            1. Oh, you can get those, they're just special order.
$36.99 for those (or any player) vs. $24.99 for a stock player.
(Vs. $14.99 for a stock player at Target.)

Wait, you can't get number-only personalized Tees (must have a name).
              They should offer nameless 42s.

  4. Sure, FOX, since I live in Wisconsin I'd absolutely be more interested in the Braves-Reds game than one played by teams from states immediately to my east and west.

    1. but aren't all people from your neck of the woods Braves fans? I mean, your state practically gave birth to the franchise

    1. I remember right after he was drafted, he e-mailed Seth to argue against those who said he was a reach or whatever.
Maybe he reads some blogs and said "Yes, I do need to lay off more pitches!"

      1. All he has to do is not swing. At 5'9", his strikezone should be quite small, especially with him crouching.

    2. Before that walk, Revere's career walk rate was 4.2%, exactly half the MLB average. His walk rate in the minors was 7.1%.

  5. Sweet Danny V. definitively answers the question as to whether oranges can rake.

  6. Dang it. You can't get set up much better than that. Two on, no outs for Mauer and a 2-1 pitch from a struggling righthander and no runs in the inning. Oh well, I guess I can't complain about two runs in three innings thus far, but that was a big opportunity to break this thing open early.

  7. I wish mlb.com boxscores tracked putouts. Seems like Nishi and Revere have all of them for the Twins today.

    1. Gameday froze up on me, so I had to restart it.
Other than strikeouts, Revere and Nishi account for all but one of the putouts. All flyouts.

  8. Who's this guy they're interviewing and why does he have two different colored eyes?

      1. Revere will need to go off as well for the Twins to be convinced to make room for him.

    1. I was going to add "terrible" to your line in a blockquote, but I guess when Coors Light is involved, that goes without saying.

  9. Twins have hit into two double plays with two runners on base and have still scored four runs in four innings. They have reached base nine times in 19 PAs against Penny.

  10. Tigers guy on the national broadcast insinuating the Twins are stealing signs.

    1. Did you ever see that sign in center that says Best Buy? How do you think they got that? It was stolen.

    2. Change your signs, then. It's not like the Tigers aren't trying to steal signs. Every team is.

  11. Phew! Getting Martinez was so huge. Now Peralta will lead off an inning trailing by at least three runs instead of coming to the plate as the tying run. Now, let's put this game away so Swarzak can just finish it off.

  12. Ugh, not Dumatrait. This is the big inning. If the Twins can get through this with the lead, they can have Perkins in the eighth and Nathan in the ninth. If Dumatrait struggles, Capps vs. Magglio and Miguel looms.

      1. And then he walks the No. 8 hitter on four pitches. He's allowed 10 BBs with 11 Ks this season. Ugly.

    1. I'm thinking we should try calling all of our mediocre middle relievers something badass. Couldn't hurt, right?

  13. Wow! The game changed on Dumatrait's first pitch! One more out to go in this inning.

  14. Perkins has to be at least one of the six best things to come out of Stillwater at this point, right?
