Game 113: Sox at Twinkies

It'd be nice if Jim Thome would hurry up and hit number 600, so I can move on with my plan of watching games until we're losing by two, because we're back to the point where the starting pitching is bad, and a Twins lead sometimes seems like an insurmountable deficit. Things are tough to watch, a few players excepted.

The Smartest Pitcher in Baseball takes the mound tonight against Zach Stewart, who is making just his 4th big league start. Our favorite tater-masher should get some good cuts in today.

Let's see some dongers jacked... I mean... umm... yeah.

Im to the point where I watch the Twins because there wont be baseball everyday in a month and a half. savor every moment, good or bad

  2. On the Grill: Omaha Steaks hamburger w/Colby Jack* cheese, locally grown white kernal corn on the cob, Jack Daniels Lynchburg Lemonade, and a Sara Lee dutch apple pie fresh out of the oven

    *hoping for Thome jacks tonight

    1. On the Grill: Meatloaf wrapped in bacon on a cedar plank with mashed taters and homebrewed hefeweizen, and brownies.

            1. Oh, and for the record, I used about half as much beer as the recipe suggests and it was still a bit sloppy.

  3. Alright, ready to go. I just finished a marathon gaming session of eight hours. I haven't done that in a long time. I should probably get up and do some calisthenics or something.

    1. I miss gaming marathons. I miss life that had few enough responsibilities that I could engage in gaming marathons.

      1. I don't have that kind of life, but I had that kind of day. I didn't mean to use it this way, but I've been writing so much lately I just had to take a day off.

  4. Hey spooky - Runner daughter watched Me and Orson Welles off Netflix last night; I'm sure she watched it for Zac Efron, but hopefully she learned some things about Orson and the Mercury Theater. I thought it was alright. Oh wait, is there still a ballgame on?

  5. oooh, snap! Mrs. Runner says it's so long since I've won the trivia question that she's "embarrassed to be Mrs. Runner". Well, we'll see what happens tonight...

  6. another thing Pavs has over F-Bomb is that he prefers not to walk the leadoff batter but instead walk the batter after the first out. Very veterany

  7. I didn't see it, but I'll just assume that I would prefer to not see _elm_n back as a Twin next year.

      1. Being that it was Juan Pierre, I definitely believe that it might not have been a bad idea. I still would prefer to see _elm_n uno'ing for a different team next year.

      2. It would have been better if _elm_n hadn't lollygagged his way to first base before he starting running.

  8. I just checked Diamond Centric to replace my "Thome is my Homey" shirt as mine has shrunk a little. I had a medium and was gonna go up to a large, but they only have XL left. I might do that, but it'd be a bit baggy on me.

  9. w00t. Coming to you from the new home computer. 25 inches of sunburning widescreen monitor too. If the Twins were in the pennant race, I might consider upgrading to MLB.com tv.

      1. well, can't I just have both? I mean, I got a 1.5 Tb hard drive. That's a Tb for Windoze and Office and lots left over for other applications and data.

btw, opinions on OpenOffice or (what was the branch called)??? this machine (an HP from Costco) only has an invitation to purchase MS Office (or a crippled version of Excel and Word).

          1. oh, thanks very much for that insurance crack. I have my external hard drive set up right next to the new box, and have created a Windoze 7 Repair Disk and set of HP recovery disks already. next up is to start doing weekly?? backups.

  10. Runner on third with nobody out and no runs, I thought that was just White Sox baseball?

        1. I figured I was, but didn't want to come across as a negative nancy. But seriously, three strikes looking? C'mon Danny, you aren't Tolbert.

  11. Let's just get all the bad mojo out this year so we can win the Series next year.

    1. I don't know, man. Erase the first third of this season and it's not nearly as annoying as the drudgery of 2007. There were really no hot streaks then, were there? Just season-long mediocrity.

      1. And that led to two Game 163s and three complete seasons of never playing a game when eliminated from contention.

  12. Gleeman tweets Twins have been outscored by 101 runs. This is a pretty shocking freefall for a team that won 94 games last year and that this year has a top 10 payroll and the highest payroll in team history.
