      1. But then they wouldn't get the publicity - this seems like a pretty blatant publicity stunt.

I didn't realize companies wrote press releases like that, refering to themselves in the third person. It reads like a someone writing their own foreward or review.

      1. As we passed, my friend Todd goes, "I've heard that's Vic Mackey's house in The Shield." I recognized it immediately and confirmed it. We drove maybe five total miles to get to the bar & grill we were going to, and he pointed out about five major shooting locations. "There's the high school where they shot the end of Grease," and such. Then he pointed out that he lives between Rob Corddry and Markie Post (though he's never seen her). I mean, I know where I live, but it's all still very surreal.

        1. I knew someone in The Valley whose home door was kicked in by The Terminator, who subsequently shot Sarah Connor there. And he bought his weaponry at a used car dealership store front next to the church that I went to. It's surreal seeing those locations in a different light.

I also remember driving by a parked auto hauler filled with Knight Industries Two Thousands (K.I.T.T.)

          1. I know a lot of people who take pictures at the bottom of Grafton Street where the protagonists meet in Once. You'd see people around my age taking pictures there all the time.

            1. When we were out in Maryland for Sheenie's grandfather's funeral a few weeks ago, we had a little bit of extra time but Sheenie would not let me drive by Fayette and Monroe.

                1. somehow, i'm doubting there is. at least definitely not walking (maybe ducking and running).

                  1. One time I stupidly took the Greyhound to B'more rather than pay weekend rates on Amtrack (no MARC train). The corner where it dropped us off was ... very interesting. Looking at the website now, it looks like they no longer use that location.

                    1. Fantastic. Thanks for the link.

No matter how often I see such things, it always blows my mind to learn that locations adjoin; for instance, the boxing gym being connected to the dogfighting ring.

                    2. Pop Pilgrims is a pretty cool feature, though that Fiat commercial really starts to grate--especially if you watch several in a row.

                    3. Yeah, I'm sick of that part already. The only thing I can compare to it are the ump commercials on MLB.tv this year, and the Geico and Sonic commercials they used last year.

        1. I wasn't sure if that was a bit of a smokescreen to not have a google search for the actor have this come up as a search result since it's kinda on the DL.

          1. Ah, I see. I figure if it had actually been Chiklis's house, it wouldn't be a big deal since I wasn't going to give the address (nor did I even take note of it).

        2. It always bugs me when reviewers describe the plot as if the actor is the character.
No, Schwarzenegger did not actually go undercover teaching kindergarten.

            1. I actually don't mind this practice for some reviews and think it's useful. When their is a complex, multi-character plot being laid out, it can be confusing. Mark? Oh, the Hanks character. Marty? Was the Cruise? Or was that Hanks?

Not that most plots are that convoluted, but it's a shorthand that has its uses.

        3. I love to call actor's by their character names. But I do it to intentionally annoy them. I usually use the most obscure part I can think of.

I hope I can see Kevin Costner some day so I can tell him I thought "The Big Chill" was the best work he ever did.

          1. I do it to intentionally annoy them.

Well, yeah, this is the kind of thing we strive to do to each other, too. It's the ignorance of people who should know better that's a bother.

I hope I can see Kevin Costner some day so I can tell him I thought "The Big Chill" was the best work he ever did.

This is an oldie but goodie. I assume he's heard it.

    1. Ha, that's the first shot of him I've ever seen. He looks like a little kid wearing his dad's uniform. If he's doing this at 18, then yeah, there's some hope...

    2. 62 strikeouts in 226 PAs (27%). He has 18 walks as well (8%), so he's not walk averse at least.

      1. I've heard he might be able to stick defensively at third. That would be huge, to have a really good hitter that's not a DH or 1B.

    1. At the Harvard of the Southeast? I'm shocked--SHOCKED.

(There's gotta be a pic of Nevin and B. McKinnie floating around, right?)

      1. That was my first thought, too. I'm just going to assume he was one of the players who got involved with the prostitutes that they won't name.

  1. Wow...now that I've been in LA for a few days, I just got an interview to teach acting in Phoenix. Uncertainty is swirling around me, but it's exciting.

            1. Signs don't tend to be my thing, but it was incredibly difficult to leave Phoenix both emotionally and logistically and now the first three responses have been from two LA-based scams and this legitimate acting teaching job in a suburb not ten miles from my family. Even I'm having a hard time ignoring that much coincidence at once.

  2. 8/17 lineup vs. Tigers: Revere CF, Plouffe 2B, Mauer C, Morneau 1B, Kubel RF, Thome DH, Valencia 3B, Tosoni LF, Nishioka SS, Pavano P

    1. I just realized that thanks to the DY trade, the Twins will have only used their Opening Day lineup once, IIRC.
