  1. I'm going to be out of town and away from the Interwebs this weekend. I'll need someone to recap Saturday's game. I can set up a game log in advance for Sunday's game.

    1. Oops. I forgot there's a doubleheader on Saturday. Maybe someone can take the day game and another take the night game?

        1. My plans got canceled, so I'll be able to do the recaps after all. I'm willing to do both, but if you want to take one, you can. Just let me know. Either way, thanks for offering.

  2. The US got whooped pretty good by the Aussies early this morning. At one point, the Eagles did get it to 10-5, but ended up losing 67-5. However, the lads did get a fantastic compliment on Twitter from Brian O'Driscoll:

Great pressure from the US of A. When they hit, you stay hit.

I noticed in the Eagles' first two games that what they lack in technical skill and creativity they try to make up for with brute force. The out-hit Ireland which threw them off their game for 60 minutes, and then absolutely took the wood to the Ruskies. I've not seen any of the other games (thanks NBC), but I wouldn't be surprised to see the US being one of the two or three hardest hitting teams at the RWC.

    1. Does that mean we should officially retire the "rants that indicate ubelmann knows nothing about women" tag (one of my personal favorite tags) from the old site, or that it's due for a renaissance?

Which is to say, Congrats ubes.

          1. Louis CK:

"The reason relationships don't work is because men think women won't change but they do, and women think men will change but they don't."

  3. I know Beau already highlighted this, but I was on 394 at Hwy 169 just before 1 yesterday. I'm glad that I was actually early for my 1 o'clock appointment (it's a rarity for me).

  4. Trivia question: last week, Adrian Peterson passed Chuck Foreman on the career yards rushed list and currently has exactly 6,000 yards rushing. Which three former Vikings are higher up on the list?

                  1. I figured Allen was the toughest. I missed Craig when I scanned the list. Interestingly enough, he was immediately below Herschel Walker with 36 fewer yards.

  5. Anyone else see It's Always Sunny last night. It was the first episode my roommate has ever seen. The scene under the boardwalk was quite the introduction for him.

  6. Okay, one more from the career rushing list: four players have both rushed for over 10,000 yards and played for just one team. Name them.

          1. Three of these things are just like the others, three of these things are kind of the same. One of these things is not like the others, now it's time to play our game.

      1. Hopefully not serious. MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger is saying it retriggered Span's concussion symptoms, but Joe C's blog says he hopes to play tomorrow, so I seriously doubt that would be considered at all if they actually thought his headache was a concussion symptom. Then again, this is the Twins' training staff we're talking about.

    1. None of this has stopped teammates from razzing these guys. According to Manager Ron Gardenhire, Carl Pavano's advice for Valencia was, "Sue him! Sue him for everything!"

  7. Guys? Remember that fantastic Sox pitcher who almost no-hit the Twins on Labor Day? Well, he now has 6 straight starts after returning to the rotation. Other than 9IP, 9K, 1H, 0BB, 0R at Target Field, he's 0-4 with a 10.95 ERA, a 2.11 WHIP, and has averaged less than 5 innings per game.

The one no-decision? He went 4.2 innings, gave up 6 runs, but the Twins coughed up two separate 3-run leads.

      1. It was one of the doubleheader games. With him and Humber (just off the DL) starting both games, I felt the Twins had a good chance at winning one. When they lost both of those games, that's when my prediction for total wins for the year began to equal the number of wins to that point. I didn't even know how bad it'd get.

The Royals scored nine runs on him in four+ innings tonight. Four homeruns. That's what made me think of him.

  8. From Joe C:

Chris Parmelee continues to impress. It was a real sign when Gardenhire gave him the green light with a 3-0 count in the first inning. Parmelee calmly singled up the middle.

“He’s swinging good, he’s got pretty good command of the strike zone; it shows I have a little trust in the kid,” Gardenhire said. “And, more importantly, he stayed on it. Rather than jerking the ball, trying to do too much, he shot the ball up the middle, which is very impressive.”

The veterans like what they’ve seen from Parmelee, too.

“I’m impressed with his maturity, his skills and his balance at the plate,” Carl Pavano said. “You can see that he has a really good approach, mentally and physically. He’s got a really good base to work with.

“He actually reminds me of Joe [Mauer], a lot -- the way he takes pitches, the way he stays really balanced. Whether it’s a breaking ball or fastball in, it just seems like he’s never surprised, and he’s still real young. I think he’s going to get stronger and more powerful and just better. I think he’s got a great foundation to do some really special things.”

This is the second person to compare him to Joe Mauer. Seriously? His minor league track record doesn't suggest this much at all, but if it is remotely true, wow. If he continues to hit like this, I think we may have seen the last of Morneau as a first baseman and Kubel as a Twin.

    1. The beginning of this article was a ridiculous deconstruction of a Joe Benson at bat. The willingness of this club to beat on youngsters in the media is appalling. I like that Pavano made the connection to Mauer. I don't know if it's true. But, I do know one thing, if there's anyone on this club who knows what it's like to be beat up for being a malingerer like Mauer has this year, it's Pavano.

Pavano is decidedly not a malingerer. I think his comparison of Parmelee to Mauer was a nice nod of the head to the head wimp.

      1. Bert keeps comparing him to Wally Joyner. I'd take that, too. Of course, Bert can't stop railing on how immature Joe Benson is.

    2. No quote from Cuddii? How did this article get written?

to be fair(er) to Joe C, he did follow the mouthpieced criticism of Benson with this:

Not to keep harping on these moments, but these are the experiences these young players need to learn from moving forward.

  9. This is the second person to compare him to Joe Mauer.

So he's going to be a weakling who won't stay in the lineup?
