  1. Summary:
I'm not sure what happened. This is basically the summary of what happened:

The reason it's at 400% is because of four CPUs. I couldn't login at all, so I force rebooted and hoped the problem wouldn't happen again. It started at 5:00 AM and this Cup was posted then, so I'm going to blame it on that spoons.

    1. Should've let spooky keep putting last year's time stamp on the CoC's and it probably wouldn't have happened.

    2. Are you sure it wasn't FTLT's Rubio/Tebow comment last night? I assume it generated too much traffic.

    1. Bonus for my name (and correct spelling!)being used in the comic. I also had a high-school friend with that same hairdo and goatee that brought one of my crazy ex-girlfriends to my wedding as his "date". Unfortunately true story.

    2. Very nice, though would it be too nerdy of me to point out that the punchline got greedy? The unlikable (they did misspell that word, unfortunately) main character doesn't make the story any less believable. Just stick with the part about the dialogue, xkcd!

          1. Gross... I looked it up and m-w.com has it in their dictionary, hence the use of the word acceptable. But, you know best, right?

            1. I think you're not taking this is the spirit it was intended. From what I'm seeing, "unlikable" came first, so no matter when the addition of the second spelling happened, that's probably why it happened. I recognized that it was acceptable now immediately. [Redacted, apology offered]

              1. You know something? I took a ton of heat at my old site in a lot of discussions and I never, ever said anything as remotely condescending as that to anyone. Don't be a child. All right.

                1. But, you know best, right?

I think this is more condescending by far, honestly. I regret my choice of words, absolutely, but I responded emotionally to that sentence.

                  1. This is all my fault. I misread your comment above as being directed toward me.

I'm sorry for being a dick.

I need a vacation or something.

      1. Late to the unfun party:
I've always spelled it "likeable", "likable" would seem to violate my internal pronunciation guide, and sound like "lickable"

        1. I never liked the way it looked, either, but my understanding was that the ugly version was correct (and Chrome seemed to support this, counting one as correct, and one as incorrect. I generally have no problems with spelling, but the rules of whether an "e" is used in situations like those are either foggy, or I have a foggy recollection of them).

  2. Unfortunate Strength:
Sounds like a Survivor challenge entry that just needs to be fleshed out.

    1. It seems to me that "Chargers" could be offensive to people who've maxed out their credit cards.

        1. I changed my email address in my profile to my current one, which goofed up my gravatar. It's still Jan Hus, but I couldn't quickly find the same picture.

    1. I was torn about the result: on the one hand, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, on the other: Ray Lewis. In the end, I will be happy to not see Ray Lewis constantly during the Super Bowl I probably will miss, anyway.

      1. I'm with you, my dislike of Lewis & Reed is greater than my dislike of Brady & Belichick.

      2. Since I'm moving to (near) Baltimore in 6 months, I think I need to become a Ravens fan. I'm bummed they didn't make it.

  3. Holy crap, they're probably going to incorrectly overturn that Vernon Davis TD, but they shouldn't and that was crazy that he was able to not come down any further on that foot to keep it in bounds.

  4. Vietnamese Chicken and Cellophane Noodle Soup

    3 qts chicken stock
    1-2 chicken breasts
2 tbsp Nuoc Mam (fish sauce)
3/4-in chunk of yellow rock sugar (brown sugar can substitute here)
    reconstituted dried mushrooms (4-5)
    1/2 lb cellophane noodles

    Serve with:
    chopped salted peanuts
    1/2 c. chopped Kale
    1/3 c. cilantro
some chopped Chinese red peppers, and Sriracha sauce

Bring chix stock to boil - toss in the chicken breasts - cover, remove from heat and let stand for 20 min.
Pull the chicken breasts out and shred into small pieces with your hands.

Add fish sauce to the broth, also rock sugar (or brown sugar), and bring to boil over med heat. Add chicken,
mushrooms, cellophane noodles. When comes to a boil, remove the heat. The noodles won't take long. Add salt, fish sauce as needed.

Serve with chopsticks/Chinese spoons. Garnish with cilantro, Kale, chopped peanuts, and Sriracha.

    1. speaking of, the local TJs had some new stuff (of which i'm assuming is a proprietary brand). i grabbed one of these, though they had an IPA too. it finishes a little too sweet for my tastes, but it's an interesting brown, and a far cry better than most $2 bombers.

      1. Careful what you get from Minhas, for every Huber Bock they make, they produce a Mountain Creek (plus about 20 other terrible beers, lest you think they have a 1:1 good:bad ratio). I see a handful of their bombers at stores around here, but I am really, really hesitant to try any of them.

          1. I only warn because I drank enough of this in college (because its tough to not buy a $1.99 six pack) to be wary. Also, the Madison Curling Club used to have this shit on tap, which I hated.

            1. heh, the CCC had a berghoff on tap. musta been an official curling beer, or something. also, i cannot get over how many jagoffs seriously review crap like that.

              1. Not all Berghoff's are terrible, but that Prairie Lager is beyond awful. Its cheap though, which explains its curling club appeal. It could be worse, though, the Pardeeville, WI club only had Bud Light, Mich Golden Light, or MGD..... and that's it.

                    1. with everything, i passed on this year, but there was talk last year of at least getting some sort of rotating tap. hopefully they did something about that.

also, while those are the taps, they at least had passable bottle and liquor options.

                    2. Yeah, but you had to pay for those bottle and liquor options...

Are you going to pick it back up next year, with Famished Pete being a bit older? If so, there needs to be a spiel somewhere that we try to team up for.

                    3. that's the plan. and i'm down for a spiel.

also, you didn't have to pay for taps?! a-hole...

      1. Judging by Harbaugh, I've a feeling this concussion won't be as stupid as the Colt McCoy concussion.

        I'm increasingly glad I had a girl.

    1. I can't really think of a reason not to root for them, really, other than being on a coast. They've got one of the best nicknames in sports, a color scheme/uniforms I really like, Frank Gore and a good defense. Also, they've historically been foils of both the Cowboys and Packers.

  5. Halfway through watching Moneyball last night, Elder Daughter turned to me and said, "I don't know if I can watch this anymore, I'm starting to like Oakland."

  6. Oh, hey, I sat down in time to see the graphic for "voice of Mike Pereira" which means that I was right that that was a fumble by Bradshaw.

  7. Joe Buck's "and we are going to....overtime" might be the most boring call of anything ever that I have ever heard.

  8. If not for the botched chip shot at the end of the first game, we would have been looking at two overtime games today. Even though it looks like both outcomes might suck, it's been a helluva day of football!

  9. Whelp, not sure I'm interested in the SB anymore. The last thing I want to see is frickin Boston or New York winning a championship.

    1. maybe the Super Bowl can end with Tom Brady getting sacked in the end zone for a game-losing safety

  10. I actually kind of dig the prickishness of the Pats, plus I really hate the Giants. So I'll be cheering for New England

    1. The problem with the Pats is their fans, really. I'm rooting for some sort of game cancelling weather.

    2. i also kinda dig the prickishness of the pats, but i'll be blasphemous here (apparently) and admit that i kind of like the giants. also, though i don't mind the 9ers, anyone that was around in the late-80s-90s is sure to have had their fill of them.

      1. I dont't know, when I think back on those late 80's-90's teams, they seem like a far more likeable dynasty than, say, the mid-to-late-90's Cowboys teams.

  11. So the SB is between two teams who are, essentially, there because the team they were playing f*#@ed everything up. Nice.

    1. Isn't it great? Yeah, the two teams I was hoping for both blew it royally. I want to say "I'm sure Fox loves the NY-Boston Super Bowl," but I forgot that it's football and the NFL does a pretty great job of making every team important and it wouldn't matter who was there because everyone would watch.

  12. I was on a Spooky roll today. I spookied the missed kick in the first game and I spookied the Niners losing because of a turnover after seeing their ginormous advantage on turnovers on the season, which often has more to do with luck than actual good play.

  13. it seems like they are flying a little bit under the radar after that huge Indiana upset, Tubby's squad has a 3 game win streak and they demolished Northwestern today. They are still towards the bottom of the standings at 3-4 (15-5 overall) but came make up some ground with games at Michigan St on Wednesday and home to Illinois Saturday.
