      1. I don't know, I have a hard time getting excited about this one. If Reznor's The Social Network Soundtrack was Ghosts V (the continuation of Nine Inch Nails Ghosts project), then TGWTDT is Ghosts VI-VII + a pretty great cover of "Immigrant Song".

That is to say, TGWTDT is about the same as Social Network except that the cover song is much better and it's three times as long (I don't think the length adds much).

    1. Thanks for sharing. I must have been in a "barn" last year...didn't really pick this guy up until about mid-Dec.

      1. Well, I didn't pick up on him until RR's "Best of 2011" post, so you're ahead of me on this one.
Also, his album won't be available in the US until next Tuesday, Jan 31.

When looking up the US release date, I see that he's playing at the Varsity on 4/4. It's already sold out. First Ave is the promoter: there's plenty of time for them to decide on a venue change to the higher-capacity First Ave. Except: Lucero is playing the mainroom that night.
There's no show on his schedule on 4/5, but he's playing Denver on 4/6. So it looks like there's little that he or the promoters could do to match up to demand.

      1. yeah, those are the only 2 dead albums i ever bothered with. and they're fabulous albums.

    2. The opening fiddle in "Jesus, etc." would be on my list if I did a nibbish-style "musical moments" list.

When I saw them in concert, the intro was done on a keyboard and it took me for.ev.er. to figure out what it was because it sounded so familiar yet so odd.

    *Notes:
    1. Dedicated, perhaps, to Meat's repatriation?

    2. My favorite song from EBTG, Tracey Thorn is devastated by her own decisions, even moreso than "Wrong" (which is my #2 EBTG track). Then Photek takes that gold and spins it into platinum: he's not showing off, but his sparser beat makes the loneliness even more palpable.

    4. A band that lives in the Twin Cities, but really exists on the internet: I don't believe they play shows. This song samples the theme song from one of the Final Fantasy games, which may be of interest to some of you. This release is available for free direct from the band. Nibbish: this may be up your alley.

    8. I haven't listened to Will Oldham much over the past year. I can see this album getting more replays in the next few months though: seems perfect music for the spring thaw.

    B. I still really like this, now 17 years after it release. This song is just great. Too bad that after he released Angels With Dirty Faces, Tricky died in the same plane crash that killed everyone involved in making The Matrix. It's be really cool to know where his music would have gone had he survived.

I'm downloading it as I type this.

  11. I've been wading through this the past few days. The 76 tracks are a lot to absorb, there's definitely something here to please/offend everybody. For the most part I've found it enjoyable and interesting, plus it's for a good cause.
