the Wolves are on a two game stop at Staples Center, playing the Clippers tonight and the Lakers (Kobe-less?) tomorrow. The Wolves have a tough stretch coming out of the All Star break with a West Coast swing (LAC Tues, LAL Wed, Phoenix Thurs and Portland Sat). 2-2 this week would be pretty good in my book.

        (And the Muskies--in their only season in Minny--advanced to the second round of the inaugural ABA playoffs. This is telling:

        The Muskies defeated the Kentucky Colonels in the first round of the playoffs, but succumbed to the eventual champion Pipers in the second round. While Minnesota was generally successful on the court, they were terrible at the gate. Despite playing in a beautiful and spacious arena (the Metropolitan Sports Center), they had difficulty attracting fans. According to Basketball Weekly newspaper, the Muskies only managed to attract 100 season ticket holders. The ABA record books say that the Muskies averaged 2,800 people per game. However, given the low season ticket base the Muskies had to work with, that number is obviously padded. It is estimated that the Muskies lost $400,000 in their only season.

        Super Cool Beas would look far more bad-ass in a Piper jersey.

    1. Yeah, can't be missing so many FT's. I like the Wes and Beasley drives to the basket, draw those fouls if nothing else.

  20. I want Griffin to be the most overrated player in the league as I think of him as a one trick pony but damn, the kid can play on the baseline.

  24. The Clips announcers would have me believe that Griffin is getting fouled when he "draws contact" by lowering his shoulder and lunging at the defender. Yup, one quarter of that is enough, I'm calling it a night.

  26. Jim Pete insinuating that Webster didn't take the shot until after the buzzer because he didn't want it to count against his shooting percentage. That's kind of what it looked like and it wouldn't surprise me at all with a guy like Webster. But most times they don't actually count those last second full court shots if they don't go in, right?

    1. They do count, and it isn't the first time I've heard about shooters delaying that little bit so the release is after the buzzer.

  28. Getting an assist in the all-star game has to be about the easiest thing ever, right? Just throw the ball pretty much anywhere and there's like a 90% chance you'll get one.

  29. It even frustrates me when Beasley takes stupid shots and they go in. Which is to say that it frustrates me every time Beasley shoots.

  33. Griffin's offense is reminding me way too much of Hansbrough's offense at UNC. Keep running into people until they call a foul.

      1. He is awesome at making the highest percentage shot at the game. Congratulations. I like to watch the guy play as much as anyone but he is better than Kevin Love at exactly one thing, dunking.

        The dude is as overrated as it gets.

  35. I don't care for the Clippers. With the Wolves kind of being a good team now can they be Minnesota's rival?

    1. I like Chris Paul and I appreciate Blake Griffin for what he can do. Before I can accept a rival I need a guy on the team that I can really hate. That's why I miss having Carmelo in the West.

  39. evening, all. jane's coming back tomorrow after a long trip to the relatives, and i've been cleaning all night to continue the illusion that i'm not as terrible a person as i really am (despite her probably figuring it out after 7 years). i'd like to take home a win, so get it done, boyos.

  43. I tried one of these with dinner tonight. It was solidly above average but not something I would go out of my way to have again.

    1. i try to take the bus as much as possible lately (longer commute, yes, but reading instead of grizzling at traffic; plus a good deal cheaper in the long run after gas and toll considerations). the big bonus is the transfer point is literally adjacent to a whole foods with a bar. had 2 of these boys for $2 a pop. decent, especially for the price.

  44. I hear SI cover model Kate Upton is at the game tonight. When you are a super hot babe and have the chance to see Pek! up close and personal it is something you have to do, you guys.

        1. I know we give SCB a hard time but if he can just cut the bozo out the guy can be a legit rotation player.
