March 4, 2012: Attention Hogs

I don't remember the last time I was thinking about any pro team but the Twins in March, and now here I am, thankful there's another month before the regular season so I can watch all the Wolves games without guilt.

    1. Yeah, valley fever is pretty crazy. A co-worker in ABQ came down with it and spent 8 months on the shelf.

  1. 4ltr pretty much gets it right with their rankings of MLB uniforms.

    5. Twins: The Twins' off-white throwback uniforms were just supposed to be an alternate Saturday uniform but after Harmon Killebrew passed, the players continued wearing them as a tribute. They should keep doing so, partly as a tribute to one of the nicest men in baseball history, but mostly because they just look so damn good. I also think the Twins should honor another Minnesota legend after victories by tossing their TC caps in the air, a la Mary Tyler Moore.

    1. I get really tired of complaints about the Padres' camouflage jerseys. News flash, East Coast writers: San Diego is a military town, the largest one in the nation. If you're going to complain about the Padres' unis, complain about how corporate and bland their 2004-present uni redesign is, especially after the elimination of the sand-colored road uni.

  2. watching Kevin Love work over the Blazers last night was something else. A combination of brute power down low and awesome touch from outside. Maybe its a bit of homerism, but I think Love might rip out a 50/20 game sometime this year. He just seems like he is in that kind of a zone.

    1. Turned to my dad last night and said, did it seem like he had 42 points? How do you get 42 points that quietly? He was something else.

  3. El Irlandes was a great find in Valparaiso, Chile, with a surprisingly huge selection of choices.

I enjoyed their Weyerbacher double Simcoe IPA the other night, as well as Left Coast Hop Juice. The wife went with the house tapper RothHammer Brutal Hops and was not disappointed.

Most of the Chilean beers are from German immigrants (Kunstmann, Cristal, Becker, Brahma), but we ran into the occasional microbrew whilst getting lost (Kross Golden Ale comes to mind).

        1. I wonder who the A and B lineups are playing, but am afraid of the answer.

  4. Maybe it's just water for a man in the desert, but I'm really enjoying Provus' work so far. His phrasing is much different than either Gordo's or Herb's, which gives him a freshness, but he still has a baseball voice.

  5. Andrew Bynum should be playing football for the Saints:

“I can’t do anything about it,” said Bynum, who lost about $750,000 from his two suspensions. “If I do anything they’re going to definitely hit me. It sucks. It’s not good. It’s unfortunate. It’s something we got to deal with. I got Beasley, I got Barea and people blame me for the Gerald Wallace incident.”

    What a tool.

  6. J.R. Towles with a tiebreaking HR in the ninth and the Twins beat the Rays 5-3. 2-0 baby!!

    1. Yeah, and then our boy Bulger gives up a grand donger to give the sawx a 4 run lead.

      1. Bulger's line for the day: 1/3rd IP, 2 Hits, 5 Runs, 5 Earned Runs, 4 BB. His Era is 135. Ouch.

    1. Wow. Two points and three rebounds from a triple 20. Has that ever been done?

      1. Wilt Chamberlain is the only player to have accomplished this; in a February 2, 1968 game vs. Detroit Pistons, Chamberlain tallied 22 points, 25 rebounds, and 21 assists.

  7. The Tigers had seven different players hit homers today. None were Miguel Cabrera (but all were projected starters, sans one (Cabrera's backup in the game)). They're going to be very, very good. Except at fielding.
