  1. CC to buffalo: i will be in your city today. i will be there for about 5 hours, flying out at 4. unless you can get inside the gate at the airport, next time...

      1. heh, i didn't even make it to buffalo, actually. boss made us miss the flight.

    1. I've heard a handful of their songs on The Current. Sounds like they could be big.

    2. Ooh, thanks for this. I was going to go to their show in Milwaukee a few weeks ago but it unfortunately sold out. I am a big fan.

    3. Listened while walking the campus over lunch. Very nice. Oh and if you have a smartphone you need to get the free NPR Music app.

    1. Yeah, saw one last night. I also saw a new Twins commercial during the Wild game last night. I think that the Boss will may get a kick out of it. His avatar makes an appearance in "Gardy calls in The Big Hrbowski to escape a jam". The only place I could find it was in the Video Corner on the Twins' website.

  2. Celtics whip Heat without Ray Allen yesterday. I didn't see the game, but I will note that the Heat's starting power forward had, count 'em, four (4) points on eleven (11) shots.

The Celtics must have a pretty good defender back there to hold Bosh down like that. If you saw the Wolves game on Friday night, you might know what I'm talking about.

    1. Let me just say this: the NBA playoffs are going to be epic this year. Out west you have OKC, San Antonio, and the Lakers. Dallas and Memphis are sleepers; the Grizzlies could be a really tough out. I'm not a believer in the Clippers.

Out east, you have Chicago and Miami. And Boston. And maybe Orlando, although I'm not seeing it. Boston looks like they may actually have a chance to get through, based on how they've been going lately.

There are favorites, of course, but I think that there are quite a few clubs with a very good chance at the title.

I think Chicago and OKC are the favorites and based on yesterday, I think the Thunder are going to get the rings. How awesome would it be for the league if they get a dynasty out of one of their smallest market teams? Maybe the suits wouldn't like it, but man, if OKC can win a couple of titles, that would be awesome.

      1. don't count San Antonio out just yet. Now that Duncan is back from retirement, they are formidable. Plus, deepest team they've had in years.

        1. I have San Antonio listed second in the west (see above). Garnett and Duncan each apparently met with Ponce de Leon recently.

          1. Yea, I know. I just wanted to crack wise about Duncan.

The Lakers confuse me. They should be much better than they have been. Bynum is having a breakout season, Gasol is still Gasol, Mamba is still Mamba, and Ramon Sessions should be a big upgrade from Fisher.

But Kobe is on track for the lowest shooting percentage of his career, Artest has been awful, Matt Barnes is still not getting enough of his minutes, and the bench is incredibly thin.

I can imagine either the Clippers or Memphis rising up in the playoffs to knock off one of the top two, but the gap between OKC/San Antonio and everyone else is pretty large.

              1. Lakers had an epic meltdown in the playoffs last year with Jackson in charge.

(Edit: That doesn't answer your question. Just sayin'.)

                1. Their depth is just not good anymore. That's not Mike Brown's fault. The Odom trade was bad; losing Shannon Brown was bad.

                  1. Then haven't you answered your own question? Why are you confused about the Lakers being worse this season if their depth got worse?

            1. World Peace blows huge chunks. He's terrible. They have no depth. Kobe is not who he was. They can't handle Westbrook and Durant and Harden, Perkins can handle Bynum. OKC is just better than the Lakers.

      2. How awesome would it be for the league if they get a dynasty out of one of their smallest market teams?

Well, it'll be a lot nicer for the league than it'll be for Supersonics fans.

              1. i was meandering up and down the riverwalk, wondered up some stairs and said, "oh. it's the alamo." pretty unassuming.

  3. Goodness gracious, but the WGOM is stoopid with content this morning.

maybe we should work on spacing these things out with, you know, a schedule for regular features.

    *looks at Beau*

Is this what happens when you can't chase our wives/girlfriends anymore, Beauregard?

    1. I know it's tough for you older guys to read more than one article a day. I'll try to be more considerate.

  4. I'm just going to complain here about baseball deciding to having opening day on Good Friday. I mean, I can't even eat a hotdog that day...

    1. Twins' opening day is Thursday.

I can't even eat a hotdog that day...
Just bought a sixer of Schell's Bock for the occasion. If it was good enough for Medieval Monks, who am I to argue?

      1. Wait, Online says Friday, but my wall calendar says Thursday.
Stupid fan-calendar giveaway. I paid $7 for this on eBay!

    2. Opening Day was last week. And Wednesday for two different teams, Thursday for several more teams, and finally Friday for the rest. I guess, pick whichever day works best.

      1. I count opening day as the day most teams open. It should be a national holiday, all teams should be required to play that day, children should get the day off of school, etc.

None of this "opening in Japan" a week before the season starts crap.

          1. I have actually asked people who work for Congress to consider making it a national holiday. I'm 100% serious about this. (This isn't too forbidden topicy, is it?). It's Americana at it's best and it falls in the right part of the calendar for adding a new day off (between President's day and Memorial day, longest stretch w/o a government holiday).

            1. Baseball is religion, not politics. Hence, not Forbidden Zone, strictly speaking.

    3. Linds and I are pumped. We get Good Friday off from work, so we'll sit down in the afternoon and watch some baseball. We're really looking forward to it.

      1. I'm working on getting the afternoon off, though our schedule means I'll probably have to go to church in the middle of the game.

    4. As if you should complain. I have two Maundy Thursday services and two Good Friday services. Talk about serving two masters....

      1. And I'll be on a flight to NOLA during the Twins game so we can make it in time for Seder with Sheenie's parents.

      2. I had never heard the term 'Maundy Thursday' until a few years ago when the local parish got a new priest. The day was always referred to as 'Holy Thursday'

        1. Catholics typically refer to it as Holy Thursday and Protestants to Maundy Thursday although some protestants still use Holy Thursday. It's also somewhat country driven as I think Brits call it Maundy Thursday regardless of denomination.

          1. That would explain why I've always heard Maundy Thursday, since United Methodism came out of the Anglican tradition.

    5. Perhaps Christendom should have consulted MLB before setting the ecclesiastical calendar for 2012.

      1. You know, there might be something to that whole end-of-the-world-in-2012 thing. Passover and "western" Easter* are on the same weekend this year, also conflicting with opening weekend in baseball.

*My best buddy in h.s. is Greek Orthodox. He liked to poke fun at the protestants and catholics for not being able to maintain proper temporal separation between Passover and Easter. Orthodoxy's Easter is April 15 this year.

in keeping with the rule established by the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea, the Eastern Orthodox Church adhered to the tradition that Easter must always fall after the Jewish Passover, since the resurrection of Christ happened after the celebration of Passover.

        1. One of my churches is in Agar, SD, population 76. I saw some political advertising there last weekend that said "Bob Joachim for Mayor 2012. They say the world's going to end anyway."

  5. With the season's American start fast approaching, I think it would be a good idea for someone to post a predictions post for all of our half-baked predictions for the season. Given today's wealth of other posts, tomorrow or even Wednesday would be a good time.

    1. It would be neat if someone would run a contest for that. If anyone was willing at least.

        1. I intended the comment to be for anyone, but realized after that it is kind of directed at you. So, if you don't mind running a contest of some sort, it would be appreciated.

                1. Think of these as an appetizer, meant to whet our appetite for what's to come.

Which is to say he's going to give up four metric tonnes of home runs this year.

                  1. Think of these as an appetizer, meant to whet our appetite for ... four metric tonnes."

I didn't realize Old Country Buffet served appetizers.

            1. OK. You write the questions and collect the answers. I can build.

Did you ever look at the entries for last year's contest?
I think I was a bit to optimistic of the Twins. I might have had them for 65 wins.

  6. On the topic of "too soon", my father in law passed away last Thursday at 59. As I've mentioned here before, he was diagnosed with lung cancer mid-February and had numerous complications. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers.

  7. Is "The Fray" actually a thing?

I hate it when the tv boobs take over the PA's job of doing the lineups.

  8. Since Derek Fisher joined OKC I find it about 13x more difficult to root for them. This Thunder game against Memphis tonight has been terrific. The Grizz are a strong defensive team that are still are a joy to watch. I know they are becoming a trendy under dog pick (18-1 to win the West, 40-1 to win the title!) but I can see them coming out of the West, for sure. Each time OKC scores Memphis comes back and quiets the crowd down.

The Wolves are going to have a tough time getting me to change the channel tonight before this game is over.

    1. I do love watching Harden/Allen going back and forth tonight. What I wouldn't do to get these guys on the T-Pups.

    2. The injury to whatsisname the PF seems to have led to better depth now that he is back.

  9. KU really getting outclassed. Their big guys are unimpressive on the offensive end. Kentucky is better at every position.

Robinson is not ready for the NBA.
