  1. Spooky, I didn't check the score at all yesterday. Spent time playing Ratchet and Clank All 4 One with my son. Then I saw that the Twins were kind enough to save their first win for his birthday. Aw... Either that or I'm the jinx, and they won because I didn't watch.

    1. Ah, All 4 One. Not the strongest entry in the series (maybe the weakest), but man, it was awesome to finally be able to play that game with my wife and my brother.

      1. facing cudiier has freaked him out.

Cudii is hitting 400/429/800 with five doubles (three last night vs. the Giants)

          1. I'm focusing on Ryan Donut (143/200/143) as the comparison, not el jamón dispuestos. _elm_n is hitting 294/278/294.

            1. That seems like an odd comparison to choose, considering Willingham seemed pretty clearly "the corner OF they signed to a multi-year deal instead of Cuddiier", and considering Mr. I'm Willing to Play Defense Everywhere Poorly doesn't actually happen to play catcher.

                1. It doesn't really seem that way to me. I see Doumit as the backup catcher, who happens to theoretically 1) hit better and 2) be more versatile than other backup catchers. RF so far seems to be a rotation of Doumit-Revere-Plouffe, which is what they suggested they would be doing in LF instead (because they had signed Willingham as more of a direct substitution for Cuddiier) until they decided they had to play Willingham in left.

Willingham just always seemed more to me like a direct replacement for Cuddiier than Doumit, who seemed more like adding a different kind of piece than they had before.

  2. Yes, the Mayor of my City was crowd surfing last night at the Trampled by Turtles show at First Avenue.

      1. i think i remember hearing this was due to some kind of bet, so it was pre-planned (so punk rock, i know).

      2. Meat, the dude is a bike-riding, craft beer-swilling, crowd-surfing yuppie. We need security from him!

        1. I've crossed paths with the mayor several times and have never once seen him with security.

    1. RT is a cool dude. He was going to crowd surf at a Spoon show to celebrate First Ave's 40th birthday, but his people insisted he resist. Glad he finally did it.

  3. From the 4ltr:

Pulling down the first 30-rebound game in the NBA in more than two years, Bynum made Bryant's third missed game in a row an afterthought by the time the Los Angeles Lakers finished off the San Antonio Spurs 98-84 on Wednesday night.

Kevin Love did it in Nov. 2010.

  4. Question for those who are in the know: for my recap of today's day game, should it be published later this afternoon or should it be published tomorrow morning?

    1. I always prefer the same day, it possible, but understand time constraints if the next day is easier.

  5. So I found out a little more about our tickets for Saturday. Apparently Mauer and Morneau jointly have sponsored some seats/a box/a suite (I don't know exactly) so that they can give tickets to charity for every game. We are that charity apparently.

      1. Oh yeah. The generosity of people with my nephew and when we were in the hospital is off the charts. It has inspired us to be much more aware of our giving too.

  6. Delmon Young is batting .294 but has yet to walk or hit for extra bases, so he has a slash line of .294/.278/.294. But I'm sure his defense will make up for any lack of production.

  7. In the seventh inning, at least 24 sections of the ballpark were devoid of humanity. Another 14 sections were populated by fewer than 20 fans each. Official attendance (tickets sold) was 9,072, but there probably were no more than 2,000 people in the seats.

I wonder if the Cleveland owners insist on playing early April games at home?

  8. Woke up this morning to a completely bricked Droid (no power response at all). I think it is in shock over the Twins' victory.

    1. Droid update. The dude at the Verizon store has the magic touch. Whereas I took the battery out and put it back in to no avail, HE took the battery out, put it back in, whispered some magic words, burned some eye of newt and voila! It re-started.

    1. I didn't realize anyone was falling for that anymore, let alone law firms.

Of course, I'd stop getting the emails if they weren't still working on people, so...

  9. Guess who:

Chatted with Torii Hunter this morning. Last night, he hit his head against the rightfield wall...and then hit a grounder up the middle and turned it into a double with hustle.

Most players get hit in the head these days, they are sent for tests and observation. Hunter's name was in the lineup Thursday morning before he even got to the clubhouse. Angels manager Mike Scioscia knows Hunter always wants to play.

"Man, I'm like a '64 Impala, with no seat belts," Hunter said. "Old-school."

    1. Also from the press release on MLB's concussion policy:

New procedures will be implemented for evaluating players and umpires for possible concussions after such incidents as being hit in the head by a pitched, batted or thrown ball or bat; a collision with a player, umpire or fixed object; or any time the head or neck of a player or umpire is forcibly rotated.

Did the Angels follow this procedure? Sounds like they didn't.

      1. actually, i saw the trainer running various tests right before they went to commercial (follow the finger kind of stuff). not knowing exactly how they diagnose these so-called "concussions", i couldn't say if that's a part of the evaluation they're referring to.

  10. In the AP write up for today's game:

After hitting 28 home runs and winning the American League Most Valuable Player award in 2009, Mauer has only gone deep 13 times — and just twice at Target Field, plus one in an exhibition game when the ballpark first opened in 2010. During that MVP season, he routinely pulled the ball to left, but most of the limited power he's shown in his career has been to the opposite field.

    1. Obviously his experience as a professional journalist really puts his knowledge on another level than us lowly bloggers.

  11. I dont know if the highlight shows are going to show it, but Blake Griffin badly missed an open dunk. the closest Wolves player was near halfcourt, thats how wide open he was. Target Center gave him the business pretty hard after the whiff.

    1. Dairy Queen? Red? The baby blues were Dairy Queen colors. I should know -- I played on a coed slowpitch team in h.s. sponsored by DQ. We were a baby blue juggernaut. (the girls on the team were all starters on the back-to-back state champion fastpitch team from Austin; we guys were the eye candy).

      1. Well, as a former long-time DQ employee, I will say that red is and was the DQ color.
