Minor Details: Games of 4/28

Twins affiliates are swept.  Joe Benson may be starting to get hot.  Dustin Martin makes the Twins pay.

BUFFALO 4, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsJoe Benson was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his second.  Brian Dozier was 2-for-4.

Pitching starDeolis Guerra worked three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Recently signed ex-Twin Dustin Martin was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Jeremy Hefner allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking none in 7.2 innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With the scored tied at three, the Red Wings put runners on first and third with two out but failed to score.  In the bottom of the ninth, a hit batsman, two walks (one intentional) and a Vinny Rottino single brought in the winning run off Esmerling Vasquez.

RICHMOND 5, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN RICHMOND

Batting starEvan Bigley was 1-for-4 with a double, driving in two.

Pitching starBrett Jacobson pitched two shutout innings, allowing only two walks.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Mayora was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  Gary Brown was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Craig Westcott gave up one run on three hits and two walks in five innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Trailing 4-0, the Rock Cats used singles by James Beresford, Pedro Florimon, and Chris Herrmann, a double by Bigley, and a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-3 and put the tying run on third with one out.  Chris Colabello and Aaron Hicks each struck out to end the threat.  The Flying Squirrels opened the bottom of the inning with a pair of singles, a double steal, and a sacrifice fly to get back to a two run lead and the Rock Cats did not threaten again.

ST. LUCIE 4, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

Battting starsAngel Morales and Oswaldo Arcia were each 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starJhon Garcia gave up a run on six hits and no walks in five innings.

Opposition stars:  Alonzo Harris was 3-for-4.  Cory Vaughn was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Cory Mazzoni pitched five shutout innings, giving up six hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Down 1-0, the Miracle opened the inning with singles by Morales and Arcia to put runners at the corners with no one out.  Wilkin Ramirez fanned and Josmil Pinto bounced into a double play to end the threat.  The Mets scored twice in the seventh to put the game away.

DAYTON 7, BELOIT 3 IN BELOIT

Batting starMatthew Koch was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starsA. J. Achter worked 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three.  Nelvin Fuentes struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up only one hit.

Opposition stars:  Juan Silva was 3-for-4.  Sean Buckley hit a three run homer.  Carlos Contreras gave up only one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The second.  All the scoring in the game occurred in that inning.  The Dragons put together two singles, a home run, two more singles, an error, a pair of walks, and another single to score seven times.  The Snappers came back to score three in the bottom of the inning but could never get closer.
