Game 26: Twins @ Mariners

I'm stuck painting my office all day, so I'm going to quarter bake this game log. It's too bad, really, because after last night, it feels like our favorite team deserves half baked, at least. What can you do, though?

Perennial Cy Young candidate (and one time winner) Felix Hernandez takes on perennial DFA candidate (and current 2-0 staff ace) Jason Marquis. On the surface, this looks like a tough matchup. On all the other levels, it looks like one, too.

So, um... Go Twins! I'm going to go put on a second coat.

  1. scout: Dangerous count for Jason Marquis; Dustin Ackley is a dead-red fastball hitter, with a .668 OPS against them this season and .600 against everything else.

    wth?

  2. Cripes, first time I listen to dick all year and he's talking about sacrifices before span even gets on base.

  3. Why do the M's bat Ryan second? I guess it isn't worse than trying Figgins in the lead-off spot, but still...

  4. Who's the stammering fella in the booth with dick that tried to tell me the twins take pride in the little things?

    1. Thankfully we have Atteberry on the radio instead of Dazzle, so any discussion of Ichiro doesn't spray bile all over the booth window.

  5. So Morneau is going to the DL, but not until Monday? sigh. Brian Dozier coming up

  6. Yeah, Roy, two runs didn't score because of the parmalee/marquis miscommunication.

    1. One is Morneau, and the other will probably be Hendriks (it sure better be a pitcher).

  7. Dick: "well I was thinking bunt."

Me: "I don't need to hear about what you do at night, dick"

  8. On the bright side, I don't have to listen to dick and Roy anymore. Night fellas.

  9. the Twins offense in the last 4 games: 3 hits, 0 hits, 5 hits, about to be 1 hit.

    1. I seriously doubt that. If the Twins last year didn't approach it, I don't see this team doing that. They're just in a collective hitting slump right now, but they have too many good hitters to worry about something like that. Carroll and Doumit haven't started to hit like their career norms. Carroll is a little bit of a worry, but it's not like he's stopped making contact. It's amazing how little time fans give new players when they start out slowly. I was talking to two Angels' fans tonight and one was like "I hope Pujols is going to hit" and the other was ready to trade him right now. At least we got another good starting pitching effort. Tonight was the first time that you could pretty much totally blame the offense. The bullpen blew up in the seventh, but those guys would not have been in there if it was 2-2 or we had a lead.

      1. Do the Angels need a closer? Capps for Pujols*!

*assuming the Angels eat most of his salary.

        1. We could even throw in Butera, but we wouldn't want to tell them that right away.

    2. At least Weaver and Hernandez are good-to-great pitchers and it was on the road. Obviously getting one hit or no hits is a bad thing, but I have some confidence in the offense that I don't in the pitching.

  10. Welp, the local nine wasn't no hit tonight.

Serious question, do the Twins get no hit twice this season? With a healthy Mauer on the roster you'd have to think no, right?

    1. Mauer has twice been the final penultimate out and gotten the only hit. He probably would have against Weaver if he had a chance.

  11. The Twins are batting .113 on this road trip and have scored in two of 45 innings.
