ROCHESTER 4, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 3 IN ROCHESTER (YANKEES HOME GAME)

Batting stars:  Darin Mastroianni was 3-for-5.  Ben Revere was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Aaron Bates was 2-for-4.

Pitching starsJeff Manship struck our four in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.  Anthony Slama struck out both batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  Brandon Laird was 2-for-4 with a home run, driving in three.  Kevin Russo was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Key inning:  The eighth.  In a 3-3 tie, Bates led off with a single and took second on a sacrifice bunt.  Joe Benson then pinch-ran.  He took third on a ground out and scored on a single by Mastroianni.

OtherLuke French made his AAA debut, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four in five innings.  The Red Wings’ win broke a nine game losing streak.

HARRISBURG 5, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN HARRISBURG

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez was 3-for-5.  James Beresford was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Chris Herrmann hit a home run, his third.

Pitching starBlake Martin struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Destin Hood was 2-for-4 with a double, driving in two.  Paul Demny gave up two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 5-2, the Rock Cats had two on with two out.  Chris Colabello and Aaron Hicks each singled in a run to put the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first.  Hector Nelo then struck out Pedro Florimon to end the game.

Pitching starJose Gonzalez worked 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Ronny Gil was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.  Chris Corrigan pitched six innings, allowing only one hit and one walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Already ahead 3-0, the Cardinals scored twice to put the game out of reach.  They had two doubles and a single in the inning.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, BELOIT 6 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 2-for-4 with his seventh home run, driving in three.  Drew Leachman hit his first homer of the season.

Pitching star: Bart Carter pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Jones was 2-for-4 with a triple, driving in two.  Chevy Clarke was 2-for-4 with a double, driving in two.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Down 3-1, the Kernels popped for five runs.  Three singles, an error, and two doubles produced the runs.  All the runs were charged to A. J. Achter, who was in his third inning of relief.
