Minor Details: Games of 5/18

Another strong outing for Liam Hendriks.  A home run barrage for the Rock Cats.  Oswaldo Arcia stars with his bat and his arm.

ROCHESTER 5, LOUISVILLE 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez and Rene Rivera each doubled.  Matt Carson drove in two.

Pitching starLiam Hendriks allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in seven innings.

Opposition star:  Felix Perez was 3-for-4 with a home run.

Key inning:  The third.  Trailing 1-0 with one out, Rivera doubled and Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Pedro Florimon each singled to tie the score.  With two out, Danny Valencia singled in the go-ahead run, and singles by Chris Parmelee and Carson gave the Red Wings a 4-1 lead.

Other:  Eight Red Wings had one hit.

NEW BRITAIN 5, READING 2 IN READING

Batting starsMatt Rizzotti was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Joe Benson, Aaron Hicks, and Chris Colabello each homered.

Pitching starB. J. Hermsen gave up two runs on six hits and no walks in 7.2 innings.

Opposition stars:  None.

Key inning:  The first.  A leadoff homer by Benson and a two out homer by Rizzotti put the Rock Cats up 2-0.  They never trailed.

FORT MYERS 2, BREVARD COUNTY 1 IN BREVARD COUNTY

Batting starLevi Michael was 3-for-4 with a double.  Oswaldo Arcia hit a two run homer, his third.

Pitching starPat Dean struck out eight in eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Miguel Velazquez was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Jimmy Nelson worked a complete game, giving up six hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Down 2-1, the Manatees had a runner on second with two out when Reggie Keen singled to right.  Arcia nailed Adam Weisenburger at the plate for the third out to preserve the lead for the Miracle.

Other:  The field in Brevard County is called “Space Coast Stadium”.  Nothing wrong with that, but it’s hard to read it and not wish it was called “Space Ghost Stadium”.

QUAD CITIES 7, BELOIT 6 IN BELOIT (11 INNINGS)

Batting starsDrew Leachman was 4-for-5 with a three run homer, driving in five.  Adam Bryant was 3-for-5.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5.

Pitching starClint Dempster struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Garrett Wittles was 4-for-6 with a double, driving in two.  Luis Mateo was 3-for-5.  Heath Wyatt worked 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The eleventh.  In the top of the inning, Wittles hit a two out two run double to give the River Bandits a 7-5 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, a JaDamion Williams double and a Leachman single made it 7-6.  Leachman took second on a wild pitch.  Rosario singled, but Leachman was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

  1. Wow, Beloit had the tying run thrown out at home plate to end the game in extras to end their winning streak, otherwise the entire Twins organization sweeps.
