Minor Details: Games of 5/27

Brendan Wise makes a spot start.  Andy Leer makes his debut as a catcher.  A big day for Oswaldo Arcia.

GWINNETT 1, ROCHESTER 0 IN GWINNETT

Batting starSean Burroughs was 2-for-3 with a double.  That was two of the three Red Wings hits.

Pitching starsBrendan Wise worked three shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out three.  Carlos Gutierrez struck out two in two perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Ernesto Mejia was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Felix Pie was 2-for-4.  Jair Jurrjens pitched eight innings, allowing only three hits and no walks.

Key inning:  The sixth.  In a scoreless tie, Mejia hit a one out single.  Christian Marrero followed with an RBI triple to produce the only run of the game.

Other:  Normally a reliever, Wise came out of the bullpen for a start due to recent call-ups to Minnesota.

PORTLAND 8, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN PORTLAND

Batting starsEvan Bigley hit a three run homer, his fourth.  Deibinson Romero hit his fifth home run.

Pitching starLogan Darnell gave up two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six in 5.2 innings.

Opposition stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a homer, driving in three.  Juan Carlos Linares was 3-for-5 with a double.  Jeremy Kehrt threw 3.2 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 4-2, the Sea Dogs scored five times to take the lead.  The damage was done against Bobby Lanigan, who surrendered a triple, two singles, a double, a walk, and another single before retiring a batter in the inning.

FORT MYERS 4, PALM BEACH 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsOswaldo Arcia was 3-for-3 with a home run and a walk, driving in three.  Anderson Hidalgo was 1-for-2 and walked twice.

Pitching starsPat Dean allowed one run on three hits and a walk in five innings.  Matthew Hauser allowed only a walk in two innings.

Opposition stars:  Chris Edmondson was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Zach Russell struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  With the score tied at one, the Miracle put together a single, a walk, and two more singles to produce three runs.  Daniel Ortiz drove in one and Arcia drove in two.

Other:  Fort Myers catcher Josmil Pinto was ejected in the third inning.  For some reason, rather than use another catcher, the Miracle put infielder Andy Leer behind the plate the rest of the game.

BELOIT 7, KANE COUNTY 2 IN KANE COUNTY

Batting starsTyler Grimes was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Jonathan Goncalves was 3-for-5 with a double.  Adam Bryant was 3-for-5.

Pitching starJason Wheeler pitched eight innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Michael Antonio was 3-for-4 with a double.  Orlando Calixte hit a two run homer.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Cougars had scored twice in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2.  The Snappers got one of them back when Eddie Rosario doubled and Bryant singled him in.  The lead was not threatened again.
