Minor Details: Games of 5/30

Chris Parmelee is a hero!  Oswaldo Arcia is a hero!  But Quad Cities puts the "boo" in Shibuya.

ROCHESTER 11, CHARLOTTE 10 IN CHARLOTTE (10 INNINGS)

Batting starsChris Parmelee was 3-for-5 with a three run homer (his third), driving in five.  Matt Carson was 2-for-5 with a double and a two run homer.  Clete Thomas was 3-for-5 with two doubles.

OtherPedro Florimon singled to drive in J. R. Towles with the winning run in the tenth.

NEW BRITAIN 7, NEW HAMPSHIRE 2 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Batting starsChris Herrmann was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fifth.  James Beresford was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Aaron Hicks hit his sixth home run.

Pitching starB. J. Hermsen came within one out of a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks in 8.2 innings.

Opposition stars:  Brian Bocock was 2-for-4 with a double.  Matt Wright worked 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Rock Cats had scored two in the first, but that’s where the score had stayed.  Walks to Matt Rizzotti and Danny Lehmann put two on with two out, and Beresford’s triple made the score 4-0.  He was thrown out trying to make it a home run, but New Britain’s lead was never threatened after that.

FORT MYERS 4, BRADENTON 3 IN BRADENTON

Batting starsOswaldo Arcia was 4-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Daniel Santana was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, driving in two.

Pitching starsMiguel Munoz allowed just one run on five hits and a walk in five innings.  Bruce Pugh struck out four of the five batters he faced in 1.2 perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Alex Dickerson and Carlos Paulino were each 2-for-4 with a double.  Tyler Waldron struck out eight in seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The eighth.  In the bottom of the seventh, Gift Ngoepe hit a two run homer to tie the score at three.  Arcia hit a one out homer in the eight to give the lead back to the Miracle.

Other:  Seven of the eight games between these two teams have been decided by one run…Tonight will be Turn Back the Clock night in Bradenton, as the Marauders will wear the jerseys of the Bradenton Growers.

QUAD CITIES 20, BELOIT 3 IN QUAD CITIES

Batting starAdam Bryant doubled, the only extra base hit for the Snappers.

Pitching starAdam Pettersen pitched a scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Anthony Garcia was 3-for-5 with a double and two home runs, scoring three times and driving in six.  Nick Martini was 3-for-6 with a homer and three RBIs.  Sam Gaviglio allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks in seven innings.

Key inning:  The first.  The River Bandits scored twelve runs on ten hits, a walk, and a hit batsman.  The first ten batters of the inning reached base.  All the damage was done off Tim Shibuya, who lasted two-thirds of an inning.

Other:  One has to wonder if Shibuya could be hiding an injury.  He’d been really good through May 15, when he threw a complete game, three hit shutout.  He’s been terrible since.  This is, of course, pure speculation.

  1. That is a lot of runs for Quad Cities. It seems Shibuya first start after the shutout was bad (4.1 innings, 8 runs) but the next start was okay (5 innings, 3 runs).
