  1. RIP Corporal Newkirk. Between Hogan's Heroes and Match Game*, Richard Dawson was always a favorite.

One of Sheenie and my Halloween ideas we always kick around is for her to go as Brett Somers and me either as Gene Rayburn or Charles Nelson Reilly.

      1. I expected this. Hoping for Gausman, Giolito, Correa, Buxton in that order. I read somewhere they have the medical staff looking into the players they are considering which is scary, or maybe it means they're going to risk it with Giolito.

    1. I have a hard time getting excited about this. It's most likely either a high school outfielder or a college pitcher. That's what the Twins traditionally go for and that's what is the most highly touted in this draft. However, it is considered a weak draft and even the best-case scenario, Buxton wouldn't get here until 2015 and more likely 2017 since even Mauer started in Elizabethton. A college pitcher might start in Ft. Myers (Adam Johnson, Kyle Gibson and Alex Wimmers all started in Ft. Myers, but Matt Garza started in Elizabethton. However, it seems that college pitchers only pitch a handful of innings the year they are drafted if they pitch at all. So, a college pitcher might get to New Britain next year and may be a callup in 2014. But that's pretty optimistic (see Gibson and Wimmers).

      1. Except the "high school/toolsy outfielder" fetish the Twins have was debunked by ubes. College pitchers, however, they do like, which is something shared with many teams I think.

  2. Its a really long article, but I thought it was worth the read. In this weeks Sports Illustrated, Tom Verducci looked back at 4 former Ft. Myers Miracles (mainly Dan Naulty) players and how steroids affected their baseball careers.

To Cheat or Not to Cheat

    1. I read it. I was hoping for a little more perspective from more users, but I suppose that's probably hard to get. Overall, well worth the read.

  5. C's just escaped a terrible foul by Garnett to negate a Rondo layup. OOOOvertime.

    1. i liked the announcers' ambiguity towards that foul. no, they were not just tangled up...
