Minor Details: Games of June 7

Three teams win late, two with walkoffs.  Kyle Waldrop makes his season debut at AAA.  More rain in Florida.

ROCHESTER 2, NORFOLK 1 IN ROCHESTER (13 INNINGS)

Batting starsTsuyoshi Nishioka was 2-for-5 with a double and a walk.  J. R. Towles was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching starsLuke French went 5.2 innings, giving up a run on four hits and two walks while striking out six.  Casey Fien allowed a hit and a walk in two shutout innings.  Deolis Guerra surrendered two hits and a walk in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Caleb Joseph was 2-for-5 with a double.  Jason Berken yielded only one run on five hits and a walk in 5.1 innings.  Miguel Socolovich struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The thirteenth.  With the scored tied at one and one out, Wilkin Ramirez singled, Sean Burroughs walked, and Matt Carson singled in the winning run.

OtherKyle Waldrop made his season debut in Rochester, giving up one hit in 1.1 innings.  Ex-Twin Pat Neshek pitched two-thirds of an inning for Norfolk, allowing one hit.

AKRON 2, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN AKRON

Batting starsMatt Rizzotti was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Chris Colabello was 1-for-3 with a double.

Pitching starsLogan Darnell surrendered two runs on seven hits and four walks in 6.1 innings.  Caleb Thielbar retired all five batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  Juan Diaz was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Ben Copeland was 2-for-3 with a double.  Steven Wright yielded only one run on two hits and five walks in seven innings, striking out six.

Key inning:  The seventh.  In a scoreless tie, doubles by Rizzotti and Colabello gave the Rock Cats a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Diaz led off with a homer to tie the game.  The homer was followed by a walk, a double by Copeland, an intentional walk, and an accidental walk which forced home the go-ahead run.

BELOIT 4, BURLINGTON 3 AT BURLINGTON

Batting starEddie Rosario was 3-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starMichael Tonkin struck out all four batters he faced.  A. J. Achter walked one in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Rashun Dixon was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run.  Chih Fang Pan was 2-for-4 with a double.  A. J. Cole struck out six in five innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 3-2, the Snappers scored took the lead when JaDamion Williams singled, Rosario doubled, and Miguel Sano singled.

DSL TWINS 3, WHITE SOX 2 AT TWINS

Batting starAdonis Pacheco was 2-for-4 with a triple.

Pitching starsMiguel Gonzales pitched three no-hit innings, striking out four and walking four.  Reudis Reyes worked three shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

Opposition star:  Yensi Magallanes threw three no-hit innings, striking out three and walking one.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With one out and the score tied at two, Pacheco singled, stole second, and scored on an error to win the game.

  1. Chih Fang Pan was 2-for-4 with a double.

    I love this name. Would the back of the jersey read Fang Pan or just Pan? Either way, I want to see it in the major leagues at some point.

      1. Hmmph. Must be too many Pans on the team if he needs both initials. That's too close to being P.F. Chang's. I'm not nearly as excited about it now.
