    1. I'm surprised Gardy trotted out so many regulars for a day game, it's usually the scrubs.

      1. They should count extra one-run innings til he hits the needed qualifying innings, much like one can get the batting title without enough PAs, just by adding straight outs. Not that that'd be perfect, but assuming a 9.00 ERA for someone close to qualifying for a title seems conservative.

  1. After four innings, I was getting worried that the Twins were going to somehow find a way to not run into outs on the bases today. Now my fears have been alleviated.

    1. Yeah, getting doubled off third and a Mauer caught stealing takes care of that pretty quick, don't it?

      1. It just makes no sense to have Mauer (who is not particularly fast) going on a 3-2 pitch with Peavy (who is very quick to the plate) and Willingham (who is very strikeout prone).

        1. I agree. I like it when Mauer has the green light to steal, but not in that situation.

  2. In some ways, the most impressive thing about Diamond is not that he's always pitched so well but that he's never really had a game where he stunk. Some games have clearly been better than others, but he's never had one of these 2.2 innings, 7 runs games like all the other starters have had.

    1. I noted the same thing a couple weeks ago, and Diamond just keep going out there and pitching 6+ innings and only giving up 2-4 runs. He's never going to be the stereotypical "ace", but he's plenty valuable just the way he is.

  3. I guess the plus side of having the bottom of the order up in the eighth is that we should have the good hitters coming up in the ninth.

  4. Gameday stuck at the end of the top of the 9th. I had to go to CBSSports.com's Play-by-play. Something's funky with my employers' internet regarding these sort of live flash things. It even happened when I used the employer's proxy methods at home.

  5. I went and got new batteries for my AM radio this morning so I could listen here at work. I then left the radio right next to the batteries drawer. They need an AM-added iPod.

    1. I was looking for an AM-capable MP3 player of any sort online at the beginning of the season. It's a short list of products.

  6. Of all sad words of tongue and pen
    The saddest are these
"And now it's up to Brian Dozier."

    1. As Parker Hageman just tweeted:

      Tsuyoshi Nishioka, '11: .226/.278/.249
      Brian Dozier, '12 .237/.270/.320

I know I've ragged on Dozier quite a bit, but he's been pretty brutal.

      1. There is one key thing he's missing:
        Nishioka: -6 UZR (-14 UZR/150!) / -12 DRS
        Dozier: -3 UZR (-6 UZR/150) / -2 DRS

Dozier has been awful at the plate, but he's merely been mediocre/bad in the field instead of awful.

  7. ok, we down here in the hinterlands on Southern Minnesota need the rain desperately, but dont need this 80 (!!!) mph winds and large hail crap that is coming with the rain

  8. Another good outing by a starting pitcher. If the starters keep holding the other team to two or three runs, we'll be fine. We'll just have to settle for 102-60!

    1. It is now impossible for the Twins to finish the season with a record better than every other Twins team in history.
