Minor Details: Games of 8/4

P. J. Walters takes a big first step in his comeback.  The Miracle is handed a win.  Chris Parmelee has nothing to learn in Rochester.

ROCHESTER 6, TOLEDO 0 IN TOLEDO (6 ½ INNINGS—RAIN)

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez was 2-for-3.  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-1 with two walks and a home run, his eleventh.  Evan Bigley was 1-for-3 with a grand slam, his second.

Pitching starsP. J. Walters started and worked two perfect innings.  Esmerling Vasquez struck out three in four innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Oppositions stars:  None.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Red Wings led 1-0.  Matt Carson singled and stole second.  Parmelee was intentionally walked.  Singles by Ramirez and Clete Thomas scored a run and left the bases loaded.  Bigley then hit his grand slam to put the game out of reach.

NEW BRITAIN 8, ALTOONA 6 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsJames Beresford was 3-for-4.  Aaron Hicks was 3-for-5 with a home run, his eleventh.  Chris Herrmann was 3-for-5 and drove in three.

Pitching starsJose Gonzalez and Dakota Watts each worked two shutout innings, each allowing a hit and a walk.  Gonzalez struck out three and Watts struck out two.

Opposition stars:  Adalberto Sanchez was 3-for-5.  Ramon Cabrera was 2-for-2 with three walks.  Jarek Cunningham was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Rock Cats trailed 3-2.  Hicks led off the inning with a home run to tie the score.  A pair of singles and an error loaded the bases, and Deibinson Romero hit a sacrifice fly to put New Britain in the lead.

Other:  The Rock Cats led 8-3 going into the ninth.  The Curve scored three times and got the tying run on base with two out before the game ended.

FORT MYERS 5, ST. LUCIE 4 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting starsAndy Leer was 2-for-4.  Josmil Pinto hit a home run, his eleventh.

Pitching starsMichael Tonkin struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Miguel Munoz struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks.

Opposition stars:  Alonzo Harris was 3-for-4 with a double.  Richard Lucas was 3-for-4.  T. J. Rivera was 2-for-5.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Miracle trailed 4-2.  The first three batters reached on errors to score one.  A ground out tied the game and Daniel Santana doubled to give Fort Myers the lead.  The Mets had the bases loaded with two out in the bottom of the inning, but did not score.

WISCONSIN 2, BELOIT 1 IN BELOIT

Batting starsKennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his seventh.

Pitching starsJason Wheeler struck out ten in eight innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.  D. J. Baxendale struck out the side in the ninth.

Opposition stars:  Matthew Miller worked six innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks.  Carlos George was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The first.  The Timber Rattlers started the game with three singles, resulting in two runs.  That turned out to be all they would need.

Other:  The Snappers had their chances, getting six hits and four walks.  They were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

DANVILLE 5, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting starsJorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his second.  Rory Rhodes was 1-for-2 with two walks.

Pitching starJoshua Burris struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Levi Hyams was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a homer (his fifth), driving in three.  Lucas Sims struck out five in five innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 2-0, the Braves scored three times to put it out of reach.  Three walks, a two-run double by Hyams, and a passed ball scored the runs.

GCL TWINS 7, RED SOX 5 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, and a home run (his fourth), scoring three times.  Bryan Santy was 2-for-3.

Pitching star:  Hung Yi Chen struck out three in three perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Deiner Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double.  Jose Colorado was 2-for-4.  Jeffrey Wendelkin struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Twins trailed 5-3.  Will Hurt singled and scored on a triple by Buxton.  A walk and an error tied the score.  Dereck Rodriguez doubled in the go-ahead run and a squeeze bunt scored an insurance run.

Other:  With a 1-for-3 day, Hurt raised his average into triple digits for the first time this season.  He is now 6-for-58 (.103).
