  1. It's terrible of me to say, but at least I have Hellickson (yesterday) and Shields (tomorrow) on my fantasy team. If the collective "we" are going to lose, at least some personal gain is to be had.

  2. Lovely. I was all set to settle in for a good baseball game tonight. This one apparently isn't going to be that.

  3. I wish Terry Ryan could have somehow talking the White Sox into taking Blackburn with Liriano

  4. Is Sean here? I'm having trouble uploading jpgs that claim to be well below the 2Mb size limit.

      1. http error. Both uploaders crap out. I get an error message from the one-at-a-time uploader saying the file is too big.

        1. the test file that I've tried several times is 1.08 Mb on disk. I succesfully uploaded several jpgs that were under 1 Mb on disk using the multi.

    1. Perhaps Blackburn should try 2B and Nishi should try pitching.
I'll only keep up my defense of Nishi through tomorrow's game, then I'll probably want him off the team. (I'm still hoping he'll like hit his first HR hit tomorrow.

  5. For some reason I was feeling really tired this afternoon and ended up taking a 2-hour nap. Now I can't shake the sludge out of my head. I might have to go for a bike ride just to the get the blood pumping again.

      1. A storm rolled through Thursday and it's been in the upper 70s-low 80s since. It's currently 76 here. I've got the backporch door open and turned the A/C off.

  6. station-to-station offense is better than no offense. But the bottom of the order is a black hole.

    1. and just gave up a bases loaded double. 4 runs on the board for the A's. Liriano with over 60 pitches.

  7. is anyone else getting sick of FSN showing the social media people?

ok, I get it, Target Field has decent wi-fi! enough already.

    1. watching on radio. But, to threadjack, is there anything more stupid than Ryan Seacrest's social media "reports" for the Olympic coverage? Except, maybe, rhythmic gymnastics (and no, I'm not talking about s-e-x in the Olympic Village).

      1. I can see having Seacrest there, but putting that crap on during Primetime is pretty dumb.

I wouldnt be shocked if ESPN took this idea of 'reporting' what people are saying on the twitter machine, tweaked it a bit, and plastered it all over Monday Night Football.

    1. His 8.0 K/9 while with the Padres is by far a career high. Apparently the park does more than just suppress runs.

  8. On the board tonight, firecracker shrimp, grilled chicken, steamed corn, garlic bread, Caesar salad and fresh strawberries.

    1. damn.

almost-nicoise salad (boiled potatoes dressed in a mustardy, garlicky viniagrette, hard-boiled egg, tomato, lettuce dressed in same, tuna), fresh cherries, cheapbeer (black lager!!! I can't wait!!!)

      1. I had a tuna sandwich from DBrians on Thursday, then checked the nutrition info online. About 1250 mg of sodium in that puppy, half my daily allotment. I would have been better off with the ham sandwich. We get low-sodium tuna at the store which is great. I really feel a lot better without all the salt in my diet, and I can taste other flavors a lot better, too. It's like my palate is waking up after a long hibernation.

        1. congrats on that.

I'm a big fan of using kosher salt or coarse sea salt to dress up foods for presentation (ok, I only use kosher salt when I cook too). Big salt flavor and a bit of salt crunch, but you don't need to use a ton.

I ended up skipping the tuna and slicing up a few mushroom instead, so it was a vegan almost-nicoise (yes, there were olives too; almost forgot 'em).

This is just an awesome salad, IIDSSMS. The potatoes soak up a lot of vinaigrette: a tablespoon or more of dijon, 2-3 garlic cloves smushed with a couple big pinches of kosher salt, the zest of one lemon plus the juice of half a lemon, whisked vigorously with enough oil to make about 1/3 cup. Reserve out 2-3 tbsp for the lettuce. Toss the still warm potatoes (boiled in their skins, cooled slightly, then cut into large dice) with the vinaigrette. toss about one small head of romaine, torn or chopped, with the reserved vinaigrette.

Place a small serving of lettuce onto chilled plates, then a half-cup or so of potatoes. Surround with chunked tomato, quartered hard-boiled egg, and chunked mushroom, and your favorite olives, and serve. Great with fresh green beans (par-boiled, chilled) too. Can be topped with a couple tablespoons of good-quality canned tuna (drained) to make it more nicoise-ish.

    1. Losing streak with Nishi out of the lineup.
Gardy will have to start Joe Shlabotnik Nishioka tomorrow!
