2012 Game 121: Funnyball vs. Moneyball

First Pitch - 9:05 p.m. CDT
Television - FSN
Lineups

Oooooow, look at all that foul territory. The Twins will feel right at home there, they've been playing pretty foul ball lately, winning just one game in their last ten and riding a five game losing streak. It's so bad I wandered over to Cot's today to see what our payroll situation looks like for next year. The good news is a lot of money is coming off the books, about $35 million, give or take a nickel. So Terry Ryan should have some money with which to play ball this winter. Let's hope he doesn't decide to bunt.

On The Hill:
Brian Duensing vs. Brandon McCarthy.
I'm not going to bother with their stats at this point. I'll just say advantage Oakland and leave it there. With this late start, I'll be down for the count after three innings. It won't surprise me if The Dunce is, too.

Play ball!

    1. I believe he's bowling for Cornish game hens. Or maybe with Cornish game hens. Either way, he'll never roll a turkey.

  1. I get to watch this game on the telebishion tonight. w00t!

just for posterity's sake: green chile chicken wet burritos, pinto beans, salad, Kirkland amber (gone already) and Kirkland Pale.

    1. I wonder if there is a kid somewhere that really likes Nic_ Blac_burn?

    2. That sounds awesome. We did two kinds of stir fry tonight, beef/broccoli/etc. and chicken/snow peas/orange sauce/etc. I'll soon be cracking my final Abbey Ale.

    1. This may not be totally accurate. I should say Revere has the lowest K rate in the AL.

    2. According to FanGraphs, he's second in the majors. Marco Scutaro is number one with Denard Span at third. Carroll is 11th and Mauer is 24th.

  2. Do we still have poll questions? If so, I suggest we ask what will happen first; Span to the DL or Span misses 15 games?

    1. Have to add it to a post, but it's there. Perhaps tomorrow's CoC.

Vaguely-CC to spoons: Add this to tomorrow's CoC: [poll id="11"]

      1. Two.
Way better than a Black alt.
A green alt that matches the near-Kelly green of the yellow-brimmed caps would be nice, too.

  3. starting a little early, but i'm gonna hit the streets in a second. my addition to the obligatory "what are you drinking" thread:

    1. I'm not drinking anything at the moment, but earlier I was drinking some Lakefront Pumpkin Lager.

Verdict: An interesting fall beer. Tastes like pumpkin.

  4. Plouffe with a chance to help me get close to my over bet tonight quickly.

    1. He's really close. I think he had enough before he took a couple days off with the sore ankle.

  5. Twins 1-for-3 with a double, walk and hbp with RISP that inning. That's a 1.267 OPS. Hard to complain about that.

  6. Twins making for necessity of more give-back runs. Will Duensing be up for it?

Is this the same A's team with the great post-All-Star record? I'm thinking not.

  7. I missed this, but the Twins are no longer the worst defense in the league. Cleveland has taken a solid lead, but I think it will go down the wire to see who finishes last.

          1. I thought since there are two nibbishes now, it would speed the whole process up, but he probably argues with himself a lot.

              1. I've been on the netbook. I didn't even allow myself to catch the gamelog, for fear it would delay me. I come here, and all I get is mockery.

                ...which i guess is expected.

  8. Turning on the radio, the 4-0 lead was a nice surprise. The two runs given back- not so surprising.

  9. So McCarthy gets knocked out early instead of Duensing. This predicting stuff is hard, especially about the future.

    1. Almost like he's still hurt or something. I'm sure that's not the case, the training staff wouldn't miss something like that.

      1. From deep under Target Field:

'The timetable from this dusty medical textbook says 2-4 weeks.

        Also leeches.'

      2. Or maybe he should have had a longer rehab. Remember he faced a knuckleballer in one game and went 0-for-4 in the other. I'm not sure what difference that made.

    1. I think he said that Burnett has been closing for the Twins with Capps out as well. That would truly suck. And its not like he had heard of Willingham when he played for the A's last year.

  10. I am a little behind (bottom of 7). The key to this game was Dunce coming in in relief in the bottom of the first.

When did he abandon the windup?

    1. He hasn't used it most of the year. When he first got put into the rotation he started to use it, but didn't feel comfortable with it and went back to the stretch. Not that he's had many opportunities to use it anyways.

      1. Much as I love three inning saves (and let me tell you. i ADORE them), it's probably best to let Burnett have some meaningless time here.

  11. I'm feeling good here, I can't think of any time that the Twins blew a big lead in the 9th to the A's.

Probably because they took that part of my brain out.

  12. It looked like there was a weird sense of anger on the handshake line after that win.

    Ah, Oakland.

  13. Pedro Florimon enters the race for Rookie of the Year! Excellent outing for Brian Duensing! We're still on track for 92-70!
