  1. Hey, you guys, Reading's up 2-1 on Chelski at the half! ESPN2 on TV and ESPN3.com for computers!

  2. That was Drew Butera's fifth RBI of the season. I know he hasn't played a lot this year, but how can you be with a team all season and have five RBIs? I'd bet there are quite a few National League pitchers with more than five RBIs.

    1. There is a grand total of eight pitchers with 5+ RBIs this season.

[correction: 9] Strasburg and Gallardo lead with 7 each.

    2. There are actually two catchers with as many ABs this season as Butera's 85 and fewer than 5 RBIs.

Brett Hayes, Miami: 114 AB, 4 RBI, .483 OPS. He was recently sent back to AAA.
John Hester, LAA: 85 AB, 4 RBI, .617 OPS. He, too, has been reassigned.

Mauer, by the way, is second in RBI among AL catchers, 6 behind A.J.

    1. Maybe on the days when Butters is catching we could have the pitcher bat for him. It's gotta be an improvement, right?

      1. That's... against the rules, unfortunately.
I for one might like to see the DH relaxed, where the player can bat for any player on the field. Would allow for AL teams to have position-players pitch without burning the DH.

    1. Casilla batting second, Butera batting eighth- my quick math tells me two hits is likely near the optimal outcome with this lineup.

  3. Five errors in the game: 4 for one team, 1 for another.
Six runs in the game: 5 for one team, 1 for another.
The team with the most of one had the most of the other: no unearned runs.

  4. Good thing there is a second wild card because otherwise the Twins might not make the playoffs.

  5. Well, Hendriks wasn't particularly good, but he wasn't a disaster, either. Hopefully, the learning process has begun. In the meantime, I guess we'll just have to settle for 90-72!
