  1. Hey AMR, you'll have to skip past some photos of the Florida Keys, but here's a link to a photographer who spent some time in the 70s documenting every day life in New Ulm.

  2. So all four just happened to say this to you on the same day or did one say it and the other three agreed?

    1. I was with spooky for a week and I don't remember this walk. Granted, whenever I was around him he had his butt planted on the couch.

                1. I absolutely love the word 'swag', I just have a difficult time thinking of a time where I could ever, ever use it without feeling like a douchenozzle.

                2. Corporate guys make up a good portion of who I know. A lot of them use it. The district team that visits uses that kind of slang all the time, without irony.

                    1. I also do not get the Twitter. When there's something I want to communicate in 140 characters or less, I just grunt it. Also, nobody with a life worth living would bother following me on Twitter, and who wants to be followed on Twitter by a bunch of people without a life?

                  1. Crap, I even had my fake wrong.
I thought it was "So Much Hate"
I will say that "So Much Hate" has worked perfectly every time that's how I read it. Even try it above.

          1. Yolo County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood.

In the original act of 1850 the name was spelled "Yola." Yolo is a Native American name variously believed to be a corruption of a tribal name Yo-loy meaning "a place abounding in rushes" or of the name of the chief, Yodo, or of the village of Yodoi.

You must unlearn what you have learned.

      1. These Arizona girls are surprisingly aggressive (or...maybe it's not all that surprising).

Alexis (as I come up to help her with something): Ooh. Love that swagger.
        Me (chuckling): Yeah, yeah.
        A: I'm serious.
Me (acknowledging customers with an awkward smirk): Uh, okay. (I help her, and turn around to leave)
        A: Keep walking like that.
Me: It's the only way I know how.
A: Mmmmmm. And I'll be watching.

I know this looks like a brag, but it was really bizarre. I've been flirted with at work plenty over the years, but nothing like yesterday has ever happened. I'm glad I have a laid-back wife who simply applauded me after hearing about it rather than freaking out.

        1. In my world, that would count as sexual harassment. Aren't you a supervisor, spoons? Even if you are not offended, you might want to warn said coworkers that shit like that can get them fired and the company sued.

          1. Not to be a blowhard, but most definitely This - I do intake for an employment law firm.* If a potential client called and recounted that exchange to me during an interview, you can be sure that would be filed as "sex harassment" under Case Type. In fact, I'd heed bS's suggestion...in CYA fashion.

*disclaimer: I am not an attorney. Nothing here should be construed as legal advice.

            1. i miss working in restaurants and bars when sexual harassment laws weren't just ignored, they were blatantly broken. (i don't mean actual harassment, of course, but by the letter of the law)

            1. ::taking the bait and making obvious comment about how that could itself be construed as sexual harassment::

  3. I'm looking at tickets for The Head and the Heart, Blitzen Trapper and Bryan John Appleby on 9/27 at First Ave if anyone else interested in attending. 6pm show - $22.

        1. i don't know what you want to call it. i guess some sort of indie-folk-rock-roots-americana-something-or-other. is it amazing, groundbreaking stuff? no, not at all; just a bunch of catchy tunes (though i will concede to the critics that the lyrics can be pretty lame). there's only one album out, so, yeah. here's this, though.

        2. This was the first song of theirs I heard - catchy is a good description.

        3. Here's a sample of the other two:

          httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAIlJqt9_yE

          1. "Black River Killer" is a great song. "God and Suicide" is another great one. Blitzen Trapper is kind of hit or miss with me, but when he hits, he hits big.

            1. "Blitzen Trapper is kind of hit or miss with me, but when he hits, he hits big."
I'd agree with this opinion. That being said, I really enjoyed American Goldwing but it didn't have a specific song that grabbed me like "Black River Killer," "God and Suicide" or "Furr"...I just pretty much enjoyed the album as an album (if that makes sense).

    1. Blitzen Trapper opened for Wilco when I saw them in Dublin. They were decent. I don't know that I would go just to see them, but then again I was really geeked for Wilco so anything probably paled in comparison.

    2. Also Jesus and Mary Chain tonight at First Ave, Matthew Sweet at Varsity. Built to Spill tomorrow if anyone is interested. I will be at BtS.

      1. Chatham Rise opening for JAMC!
(My SiL's BF's band. He lent us a bunch of tools for various house projects. Miter Saw!)

      2. Wish I could see that JaMC show. I'm going to Melvins tonight in Fargo. I'll be at GZA Thursday, Swans Friday, and I'm thinking I'm going to go to The Master at the Uptown on Saturday at 7:15 (assuming tickets go up for sale soon so I can get them before it sells out). If anyone is going to be around or at any of those events and wants to meet up, email me: zmoney at google's email dot com.

  4. Real Madrid is playing ManCity right now in Champions League action, as are Arsenal and Montpellier. But because Fox Soccer and FS+ are showing those, the regionals get AC Milan-Anderlecht (Belgian champs). I understand Fox's desire to put the high-profile games on the premium channels to increase subscriptions, but anyone that wants to see group stage CL games that badly already has Fox Soccer. I think a matchup like RM-MC could really be used to grow casual viewership.

  5. Also, after 4 games in the EPL, here is the prediction contest standings.

Everyone follow the link and double-check your points in case I made an Excel error.

    1. Any errors you make in my calculation will not concern me, as I used a randomized process to make my picks, and I'll assume your errors are also random and unbiased. If they're biased, though, I will cut you. But I won't know unless someone figures it out for me.
