  1. Oh boy, it sounds like the Senate race in ND is going to drag out at least until the end of the week. Just make it stop.

        1. pfft. there were late-19th century elections (pre-17th Amendment) in which senate seats were left vacant for years.

          1. After the Civil War, problems in senatorial elections by the state legislatures multiplied. In one case in the late 1860s, the election of Senator John Stockton of New Jersey was contested on the grounds that he had been elected by a plurality rather than a majority in the state legislature. Stockton based his defense on the observation that not all states elected their senators in the same way, and presented a report that illustrated the inconsistency in state elections of senators. In response, Congress passed a law in 1866 regulating how and when senators were elected in each state. This was the first change in the process of senatorial elections created by the Founders. The law helped but did not entirely solve the problem, and deadlocks in some legislatures continued to cause long vacancies in some Senate seats.

Intimidation and bribery marked some of the states' selection of senators. Nine bribery cases were brought before the Senate between 1866 and 1906. In addition, forty-five deadlocks occurred in twenty states between 1891 and 1905, resulting in numerous delays in seating senators. In 1899, problems in electing a senator in Delaware were so acute that the state legislature did not send a senator to Washington for four years.

        1. I clicked through pages and pages of pictures of ballots on the Star Trib site. I have no idea how I forgot it.

Well, other than my piss poor memory of course.

      1. A guy from my church lost a city council election by two votes four years ago. (In a race where the top two receiving votes make the council.)
This year, he lost by 15.

  2. I won't be specific, but I was doing some job searching and found one organization who doesn't have their applicants' resumes stored properly. Putting "Human Resources" in the site search returns old resumes and cover letters from their Google Drive.

I've alerted the org. in question and I think I'll wait until they get that sorted to apply.

    1. Maybe you should apply to be the document security manager for that place... sounds like you've got an in!

      1. Funnily, enough the position I'm interested in is "records coordinator". It as to do with the records of their clients, not HR files, but I did think "This should help my application" when I sent the head's up.

    1. I will be mourning my favorite:

Here are some more details with Chimney Sweep. This beer will be the first part of a duo of beers that will replace Stout in Schell’s year-round line-up of specialty beers.

Crime against beer if you ask me.

  3. After six months of paperwork, nagging phone calls, and frustration (because apparently they don't get any commission on it, so we get pushed to the bottom of the to-do list), our refinancing was finally approved and is now set for closing. Hooray for lower monthly payments!

    1. one of more dumb things the Weather Channel has done (number 1 in my book is moving away from weather and showing shows like Coast Guard Alaska)

          1. the morning show has some pretty good train wreck moments when they try to talk about pop culture

  4. Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson
I'm told the #MNTwins have officially planted a seed on free agent pitcher @BMcCarthy32. Will be curious to hear what his price is.

I didnt know McCarthy was a tree

  5. holy crap! on NBCSN, they are showing the New York Red Bulls playoff game, and its a friggin blizzard!

    1. DW beats me by two minutes! Yeah, it's actually coming down. I hope they use the orange ball.

        1. Nah, the ball itself is orange for the sake of the players. I think it's pretty standard when snow comes into play.

  6. Ha! It's snowing at Red Bull Arena right now for the second leg of the DCU-NYRB MLS playoff matchup. Sounds like kickoff will be 7:30 central, could be a fun game. It's tied 1-1 after the first leg, which should have been in NY but the legs were switched due to Hurricane Sandy.

        1. yeah
and they dont have any plows or those machines with the snowbroom on it. $200 mil stadium and they go cheap on winter gear!

    1. This pregame is great. Ben Olsen embraces the chaos, Hans Backe and the NYRB want to chicken out and postpone the game.

      1. I would figure that inclement weather favors DC, New York generally likes to keep the ball on the ground, which could figure into the two coaches' attitudes.

    2. CONCACAF WQC Hex draw is just over. (Numbers aren't seeds, just for scheduling)

      1-Mexico
      2-Jamacia
      3-Honduras
      4-USA
      5-Panama
      6-Costa Rica

USA opens on the road in Honduras. Games against El Tri are @ Mexico on March 26 and at home on Sept. 10.

      1. Not the greatest draw, though being @Mexico in March, avoiding the worst of the heat, has to be a positive, right? I wonder if this will change the thinking on hosting Mexico in Columbus, though changing that would definitely be spitting in the face of superstition.

Sounds like their last match is @Panama, hopefully they don't need a result going into that game.

        1. 4 of their 5 home games are games 5 through 9. They could have a shaky start with 3 of the first 4 games on the road.

        1. Sounds like DC has to ride back to at least Philly, if not DC, for the night, since hotel space post-Sandy is so short.

  7. bought a case of Pyramid winter beers at Costco. It includes this. Not exactly a drain pour. Like all Pyramid products, it is structurally sound. I just don't get it. Tea-flavored beer? It is better than the chamomille-flavored ale I've had [shudder], but still. No thanks.

maybe I can find something to cook it in.
