  1. Rochester scored all of its runs in the first four innings and defeated Durham 10-0 yesterday. Evan Bigley, Doug Bernier, Clete Thomas, and Brian Dinkleman each homered. Trevor Plouffe was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Kyle Davies, Caleb Thielbar, Jason Lane, Daniel Turpen, and Anthony Slama all pitched. The Red Wings play Norfolk today.

  2. Real Dick Bremer* lobs a veiled insult at Shecky Souhan:

*Fake Dick Bremer can't keep up anymore.

      1. It all comes down to physical appearance and intelligence (or lack thereof).

        It is basically high school!

        1. It is basically high school!

It is my belief that law school is basically jr. high school, so more evolved?

          1. It is my belief that law school is basically jr. high school

And with this I feel a lot better about not following that path. I would've hated it.

            1. It was nice to be a little more ... um ... vintage than some of my classmates. I was rarely around after classes ended to get involved in the gossip and chaos.

              1. I had a pretty crap attitude in life when I was first in school, and I hated how immature my peers are. Now that I'm like 10 years older than most of my fellow students I can usually just laugh off their stupidity. I still bang my head against the wall when we have to have interactions on discussion boards, but man, that's still so much better than how school was when I originally went.

                1. This is true. I was in a day section my first year and it was unbelievable. After that, I had mostly night classes and yes, the night classes were much different.

                    1. Heh, I was in small-group WRAP with out of your PAD buddies who, as we both know, is beyond insane. I don't think she ever realized in three years that I was pushing her buttons every single time we had a conversation. Entirely too easy.

                    2. I was never a member of PAD, but if it's who I'm thinking then yes - beyond insane, and yes - oblivious to basic social cues like button pushing & leg pulling.

Somewhat related, Philo just told me that one of my small-group WRAP buddies is the newest hire at his place of employment.

                    3. Ah, I thought you were in PAD. I hope you said a little prayer for your buddies based on Philo's stories.

          2. I have stories to tell about the childish behavior on display at my professional school. Seriously, I don't think people ever get out of middle / high school.

  3. Spamtown has not won a boys hoops title since 1958. This could be the year -- ranked number 2 most of the year and undefeated. Came back from a double-digit deficit yesterday to defeat the Blake School in the first round.

  4. also, headline in today's Sac Bee sports section: "Boldin stresses chemistry". I immediately thought the story was about PEDs.

  5. not only is today the start of all day college basketball, its the start of (the last) WCHA Final Five tourney
I am cheering for the Mankato Mavericks (I cant call them 'Minnesota State')

    1. Having not seen any past the first one, and unable to travel to that linked (blocked domain!), I'm only guessing here. Is this the one where they reveal that the camera used to film is actually a transformer that needs some repair work, but they haven't had time until now to get it done?

  6. It may be cold, but spring is imminent. How do I know? I caught a mouse in my garage this week.

      1. Sounds like they're preparing for the worst already. Ugh. Terrible.

This maybe treads a bit too close to the FZ, but with this news I feel like I must say it.

        Spoiler SelectShow

Everyone pulls together and we usually get through it. One of these times we may not. Making it harder for good, permanent flood protection here is going to increase the likelihood of that happening. I don't want to live here for the rest of my life, and some things about this town drive me crazy, but I love it. It's my home. Let's just get something done for the sake of the city.

        1. Is buying out homes really an option? This is flatlands, there is no real "floodplain" like here along the Mississipi or Missouri (or Meramec or Illinois or god we have a lot of rivers here). It's not like people there are ignorantly building in floodplains -- the whole freakin' area is a floodplain! And the Red (and its tributaries) are unique in that they flow north, so much of the flooding is due to ice and not to sheer water volumes.

We had flooding (relatively) near to our farm growing up, and the only river within many miles is the Sand Hill River, which is 15' wide and knee high in the summer, and that isn't even where the flood water near us came from. It's like spilling a glass of water on a table.

          1. They were talking about this on the radio this morning with the Moorhead mayor. Apparently their targeted buyouts has led to them needing significantly less sandbagging. There's basically "bad" and "badder" areas around here as far as flood risk goes I think, so I understand some of them being bought out.

However, I think the provision was in the bill was that part of the diversion project included home buyouts to make room for the diversion? I suppose it keeps them from doing an end around with the funds or something.

The flood detours in Manitoba are hilariously obnoxious. Like, dozens and dozens of miles out of the way. There's one small bridge, less than half a block long, in Morris that always gets flooded. If it gets flooded, Highway 75 is shut down until the water goes back down. Anyway, driving those detours, my gosh. It's basically road and water as far as the eye can see. It's insane and drives home just how damn flat it is.

            1. I think they want to obliterate the city of Oxbow. That whole town would be gone. The diversion project is very unpopular south of Fargo. Kindred really doesn't like it because it will seriously impact the tax base for their school district.

        2. I went up and sandbagged with a crew from the Bossman's old law firm during the flood back in 2009. I was astounded standing one of side of an eight-foot high wall of sandbags and looking at water for a half-mile in front of me all the way to the people doing the same on the other side.

  7. So I snagged some "Hotter 'n Hot Jalapeno" Zapps chips at a St. Patrick's parade last weekend. My gosh they're good (although they're not moon pie good).

      1. I get cajun crawtater shipments in the mail whenever Sheenie's parents are feeling especially generous, but these might need to work their way into the rotation. Last thing I caught at the parade on Sunday was a moonpie. Talk about ending on a high note.

  8. USMNT to host Panama in Seattle on June 11th! Kind of lame that they capped attendance because of the competing Mariners game that night, though. Maybe USSF can eventually work something out with the Mariners to cap Mariners attendance instead (since a Tuesday evening game against the Astros is guaranteed not to sell out anyway).

        1. Thanks guys. I am definitely going. Hopefully I can get tickets in my normal section on the March 26th pre-sale, otherwise I'm sure I'll enjoy the view in a different section, though the price gets a little steep in certain sections. One of my friends planned his vacation around the possibility of Seattle hosting on June 11th, so he's pretty stoked, too.

  9. My first taste of new glarus is a spotted cow. Solid, but now I understand why cheaps never bothered to send me one in the mail.

    1. Speaking of, I was looking at what to send you from up here, and I think I found a good candidate I was gonna ask and check to make sure it's something you can't get down there, but then I can't remember the brewery. It's a stout, which I assume you'd be OK with.

      1. Is it beer? Then I'll drink it.

Ask will about the green stuff that was passed as beer last weekend.

        1. We were both drinking it and it barely fits the description. Still better than the apple pucker the women gave us from the float.

    2. Its worth trying just to try the beer that outsells all of AB and most of Miller-Coors products in WI. Of course, every single other beer they make is better.

    1. they hired more security than they needed
and the food distributor takes 25% of the money before you get to see it

Go to a Mankato St hockey game, you can buy hard liquor at one of the kiosks.

  10. according to Dick Bremer, Sano's last name is pronounced 'sah-no'.
    like the Yankees Robinson Cano

  11. Things learned from the game so far:
    * Mo is still Mo.
    * Dozier had LASIK. Expect a breakout.

    1. * Hicks covers a lot of ground and has a great arm.
      * Sano has a nice arm.
      * It's still spring training for balk calls.

  12. Only 3 hoops games on tonight. Wolves about to start, not available on tv in the Twin Cities.

  13. I was looking at the WGOM achievements, and it became clear to me. We need to run another Twins prediction contest this year.

That's about it... I guess I can come up with the questions if that's what it'll take.

  14. We just had a movie day and I don't want to wait that long to talk about it, sorry. I just got back from Spring Breakers and it was awesome. I'm too tired to come up with the words, but man. It was a beautifully shot and edited movie. Franco's performance was fantastic, as were the four main female actors. I was enthralled the entire time. The crowd was not. Most of the people near me spent the time dicking around with their cell phones. After the movie a bunch of people loudly complained about how bad it was, which amused me.

It's seriously awesome though. I cannot wait to go see it again.
