    1. Based on the first inning so far, I predict Wade Davis gets 27 K's but gives up 9 BB's.

  1. Gameday's strike zone gives Aaron Hicks three hot spots, which is interesting considering he only has two hits.

  2. Willingham goes first to third on a pop-up to the shortstop. Sounds like heads-up baserunning to me!

    1. i remember, a few years back, mlb.tv briefly played various teams' commercials during breaks. i always though that was a cool idea. at least better than "hey, ump!!!" every single inning.

  3. Well, last night Hendriks did say Butler owned him... it's like I've been waiting for this to happen for 22 hours.

  4. Ouch. Hendriks is going to have a hard time getting any outs if he's not going to get those strike calls. At least according to Gameday.

  5. How come on this one, Bert didn't say, "Solo home runs won't hurt you" like I've heard him say a thousand other times?

  6. WTH is up with pitches 2 and 3 to Moustakas being called balls? Especially #3- who's the ump tonight?

  7. Sweet two hits to start out the inning. Who wants to bet Gardy is going to give them an out now?

  8. Florimon, if you want to bunt, that first pitch would've been a good one to do it on.

  9. I understand this is only the ninth game of the season, but it's time to swap Florimon and Hicks in the lineup.

    1. I was thinking along those lines last night. I don't expect Florimon to keep hitting and getting on base the way he is now, but he's sure seems like a better leadoff candidate than Hicks at the moment.

  10. No one else will be shocked if the Twins load the bases in the first two innings and don't manage to score a run, will they?

  11. Well, the good news is the Twins are having no trouble at all getting people on base...

  12. On the plus side, the Rock Cats have hit three home runs tonight and are leading 4-2 in the sixth.

  13. I'm not saying Hendriks has pitched great or anything, but he sure never seems to get much help from the defense, either.

  14. Who wants to bet that the Royals will manage to score a run with the bases loaded?

  15. Fort Myers gave up a four-spot in the first, but has scored six runs in innings four through six to take a 6-4 lead.

      1. I sure hope not (considering the Twins plunk-a-palooza Davis is putting on) but Gameday doesn't tell me these things. I wouldn't be shocked, I guess.

  16. It seems to me that a lot of young pitchers have trouble putting batters away. It's one of the things Hendriks needs to learn in the big leagues, because he's not going to learn it in Rochester.

      1. He plays center field and can hit lead off. I mean, tonight he's batting seventh and playing first base, but, theoretically, I suppose he could play center field and hit lead off if that's what the manager told him to do.

    1. They put a huge shift on him, but he's got to lay that down the line and past the pitcher.

      1. I was waiting for that. You can also call me Dr. House, though that might confuse me with another more famous Dr. G. House.

        1. I went with Dr. House, Dr. Stanton, and Dr. Brendon before finally settling on Dr. Greek.

          1. Those are all acceptable. Just don't call me Mr. Greek or I will punch you in the face. (not really)

  17. New Britain is in a rain delay. Still 10-2. Fort Myers leads 6-4 with two out in the ninth.

  18. Lighning knocked out our internet/TV signal this afternoon, and tornado sirens, etc. this evening; stopped by the library to borrow wi-fi to drop some emails for work and to check the score. Gotta do better, guys...

  19. Francoeur is susceptible to the low-and-away breaking ball? Why I never would have guessed.

  20. Jupiter scores twice with two out in the ninth to tie the game. Fort Myers batting in the bottom of the ninth.

  21. The Twins sure seem to be playing a lot of long games this year. It's taken almost two hours to play five innings of a 1-0 game.

  22. Stephen Wickens singles in Jonathan Goncalves with two out in the tenth. Fort Myers wins 7-6 and remains perfect on the year.

  23. I don't see any mention of it here, but on the Twins broadcast, Blyleven reported earlier that Brunansky said he was trying to teach Hicks to beat the ball into the plate.

Now, I don't know the context, but I think the last thing you want to do with a double and triples hitter is to teach them to be Luis Castillo.

    1. I heard that, but not the full context. Teaching Hicks to pound the ball into the ground would be a terrible idea.

  24. Jeremy Guthrie last night, Bruce Chen tonight. Thankfully Andy Pettite isn't a Met so we don't have to see him next to complete the trifecta.

      1. See, that is where I was going, too. The frustrating thing is it is so delicious that it makes me much more agreeable.

  25. Darn it, if the Royals had just dropped a second pop fly that inning, we'd have tied it up.

  26. Time for bed, y'alls. If I wake up and find out the Twins lost this game, then I blame Casilla.

  27. I think if nothing else this game is further proving that Hendriks just doesn't know how to win.

  28. I liked it better when Duensing was a decent/good lefty reliever. He needs to chat with Perkins on how to regain his reliever mojo.

  29. I would like someone to get an animated gif of that shot of Gardy with his hands in his pockets, looking despondent while the rain poured down. I think we could get a lot of use out of that one this season.

  30. Maybe it isn't actually Parmelee. Maybe someone else could fake being Hicks when batting.

  31. The Rock Cats score four more in the ninth to go ahead 17-2. There will not be a save situation in the bottom of the ninth.

  32. Doesn't a pitcher usually have to throw the ball in the strike zone to be considered to be "challenging" the batter?

  33. The Twins continue to struggle in games where they score zero runs. You'd think the law of averages would turn that around at some point, but so far it hasn't. Anyway, we'll just have to settle for 157-5!
