Minor Details: Games of 4/18

Chris Colabello and Miguel Sano each hit their fifth home runs of the season.  A good outing for Alex Meyer.  Fort Myers starts a new winning streak.

ROCHESTER 5, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Herrmann was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Chris Colabello hit a home run, his fifth, and drove in three.

Pitching stars:  Virgil Vasquez pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks.  Daniel Turpen struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits but no walks.

Opposition stars:  Melky Mesa was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Corban Joseph was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.  Jim Miller struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Key inning;  The first.  After the RailRiders scored once in the top of the inning, the Red Wings came back with four in the bottom half.  The first four Rochester batters reached base:  Eric Farris singled, Herrmann doubled, Clete Thomas singled, and Colabello hit a home run.  The Red Wings never trailed after that.  S/W-B hit a couple of solo home runs late to make the score close, but solo homers don't hurt you.

NEW BRITAIN 17, PORTLAND 1 IN PORTLAND

Batting stars:  Almost everybody.  Antoan Richardson was 4-for-6 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three.  Curt Smith was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring three times and driving in three.  James Beresford was 3-for-3 with three walks, scoring three times and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Alex Meyer pitched six shutout innings, giving up only one hit but walking four while striking out five.  Bobby Lanigan pitched a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in the lone SeaDogs run.  Travis Shaw was 0-for-0 but walked four times.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 2-0, the Rock Cats scored three times to take a commanding lead.  Josmil Pinto had an RBI single and Daniel Ortiz had an RBI double.

FORT MYERS 11, ST. LUCIE 8 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting stars:  Adam Pettersen was 3-for-6 with a double, scoring three times.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a walk and a homer, his fifth, scoring twice and driving in three.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.

Pitching stars:  Ryan O'Rourke pitched two perfect innings.  Zach Jones struck out three and walked one in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Matt Reynolds was 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run, driving in three.  Jim Fuller struck out five in three shutout innings, allowing only a walk.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 8-7, Vargas delivered a two-out two-run double to give the Miracle a lead it would not relinquish.

PEORIA 13, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN PEORIA

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Chris Mazza struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Alex Mejia was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Jacob Wilson was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Jhonny Polanco struck out five in two shutout innings, allowing only two walks.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Trailing 3-0, Peoria scored nine runs.  The Chiefs had five singles, a double, another single, another double, and another single.  Thirteen men batted in the inning.
