Minor Details: Games of 4/20

Chris Colabello delivers for Rochester.  A Miracle comeback falls short.  A big day for Drew Leachman.

ROCHESTER 5, PAWTUCKET 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth) and two RBIs.  Clete Thomas was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Joe Benson was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Caleb Theilbar struck out three in three shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits and a walk.  Tim Wood struck out two in a perfect inning.  Anthony Slama pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Brandon Snyder was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The score was tied at four.  In the top of the inning, Rochester got back-to-back one-out singles but failed to score.  In the bottom half, Colabello hit a one-out home run to give Rochester a lead they would hold.

PORTLAND 7, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN PORTLAND

Batting stars:  Danny Santana was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once.  Jason Christian was 0-for-1 with two walks.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Thompson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Travis Shaw was 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Will Latimer struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Key inning:  The first.  Santana tripled and scored to give the Rock Cats the early lead.  Portland came back with two in the bottom of the first on a walk, a single, an error, and another single.  The SeaDogs never trailed after that.

ST. LUCIE 6, FORT MYERS 5 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting starMiguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Domingo Tapia allowed two unearned runs on four hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out six.  Matt Reynolds was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  T. J. Rivera was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in three.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 6-2, the Miracle nearly lived up to their name.  A single, three walks, and another single made it 6-4 with the bases loaded and none out.  Adam Pettersen hit an infield single, scoring one, but Stephen Wickens was thrown out trying to score from second on the hit, ending the game.

CEDAR RAPIDS 11, PEORIA 2 IN PEORIA

Batting stars:  Drew Leachman was 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two.  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with two walks, scoring once and driving in two.

Pitching stars:  Mason Melotakis pitched 3.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and four walks.  Steven Gruver pitched 4.2 innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits and no walks while striking out four.  Tyler Jones gave up one hit in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Jacob Wilson was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jordan Walton was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Key inning:  The first.  The Kernels popped out of the gate, scoring six runs.  Twelve men batted.  Two walks opened the game, followed by a single, a hit batsman, three more singles, another walk, and one more single.  No one had more than one RBI.  Byron Buxton walked twice in the inning.
