PAWTUCKET 8, ROCHESTER 2 IN ROCHESTER

Batting star:  Evan Bigley was 2-for-3.

Pitching stars:  Liam Hendriks struck out five in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk.  Michael O' Connor struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  Tim Wood pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jackie Bradley was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Jose Iglesias was 3-for-4 and scored twice.  Ryan Lavarnway was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

Key inning:  The ninth.  In a 2-2 tie, the Red Sox scored six times.  A single, a stolen base, and an intentional walk put two runners on with one out.  Drew Sutton doubled to give Pawtucket the lead.  Another intentional walk loaded the bases and Ryan Lavarnway singled in two to make it 5-2.  Anthony Slama, who had started the inning, was relieved at this point.  Daniel Turpen came on to give up a two-run triple to Bryce Brentz.  Brentz came in to score on a ground out.

PALM BEACH 7, FORT MYERS 4 IN PALM BEACH

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Kyle Knudson was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Cole Johnson pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks.  Adrian Salcedo struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Ronny Gil was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice.  Stephen Piscotty was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  Nicholas Longmire was 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Palm Beach trailed 4-3, but scored four times.  An error, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with one out.  Longmire singled to tie the score and a wild pitch gave the Cardinals the lead.  An intentional walk re-loaded the bases, an unintentional walk made it 6-4, and Danny Stienstra singled to make it 7-4.  All the runs came off Chad Rogers, who was brought in to start the inning.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, BURLINGTON 4 IN BURLINGTON

Batting stars:  J. D. Williams was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three.  Adam Walker was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks.  Manuel Soliman pitched two shutout innings despite giving up a hit and three walks.  Tim Atherton struck out the side in the ninth.

Opposition stars:  Kyle Johnson was 2-for-3 with two walks and scored twice.  Pedro Toribio was 3-for-5 with an RBI.  Wade Hinkle was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Kernels led 4-2, but had two out and one on.  Jairo Rodriguez walked and Williams hit a two-run homer to put the game out of reach.
