Minor Details: Games of 4/25

A big night for Byron Buxton.  Five hits for Doug Bernier.  Sano hits his eighth.

ROCHESTER 10, SYRACUSE 5 IN SYRACUSE (11 INNINGS--COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting stars:  Chris Herrmann was 4-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs.  Evan Bigley was 2-for-4 with a home run (his first) and scored twice.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a walk and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Robertson struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Tim Wood pitched two perfect innings.  Syracuse did not score after the fourth inning.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Tatusko allowed one run on four hits and a walk in six innings.  Chris Marrero and Chris Rahl were each 2-for-5, and each hit a two-run homer.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Red Wings trailed 5-1.  The first four batters reached base, including a two-run single by Herrmann, to make it 5-3 and put runners on second and third.  A ground out resulted in one run, and a two-out double by Joe Benson tied the score.  That ultimately sent the game to extra innings, where a five-run eleventh (highlighted by a three-run triple by Brandon Boggs) put the game away.

ROCHESTER 10, SYRACUSE 7 IN SYRACUSE (REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAME)

Batting stars:  Doug Bernier was 5-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Brian Dinkelman was 4-for-5 with three doubles and scored twice.  Joe Benson was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk and scored four times.

Pitching stars:  Shairon Martis gave up two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four in five innings.  Luis Perdomo struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Daniel Turpen retired all five batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  Zach Walters was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Will Rhymes was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Jeff Kobernus was 2-for-5 and scored twice.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Syracuse had just scored five in the sixth to tie the game at seven.  Dinkelman doubled with one out, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Bernier single to put the Red Wings back in front.

NEW BRITAIN 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Batting stars:  Dan Rohlfing was 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jonathan Goncalves was 2-for-3 and scored once.  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Alex Meyer struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on eight hits and a walk.  Aaron Thompson pitched two shutout innings despite giving up three hits.  Michael Tonkin gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Ricardo Nanita was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Austin Bibens-Dirkx struck out seven in 6.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on ten hits but no walks.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The score was tied at one.  Rohlfing and Goncalves led off the inning with singles, but the next two batters went out.  Mark Sobolewski then delivered an RBI single, and an error allowed a second run to score and put the Rock Cats up 3-1.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 3 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Levi Michael was 2-for-4 with two triples, scoring twice and driving in one.  Adam Pettersen was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.

Pitching stars:  D. J. Baxendale struck out five in six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks.  Dakota Watts pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jeff Malm was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.  Nate Garcia struck out three in two perfect innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Miracle led 4-0 after two and a half, but the Stone Crabs had cut it to 4-2 after four.  Miguel Sano hit a one-out homer, his eighth, to give Fort Myers a three-run lead.

CEDAR RAPIDS 16, GREAT LAKES 7 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Bryon Buxton was 3-for-5 with a home run (his third), two doubles, and a walk, scoring four times and driving in five.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a home run (his first) and two walks, scoring three times and driving in two.  Adam Walker was 2-for-6 with a double and a home run (his third), driving in four.

Pitching stars:  Matt Tomshaw struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jeremy Rathjen was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.  Eric Smith was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Paul Hoenecke was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The sixth.  a 5-0 Kernels lead had been cut to 6-4.  Buxton led off the inning with a double, Jorge Polanco drew a one-out walk, and Walker hit a two-out, three-run homer to increase the lead to 9-4.

  1. Levi Michael was 2-for-4 with two triples, scoring twice and driving in one.
    Went to look up how Michael was going this year and realized yesterday was his first game of the year.
