2013 Game 27: Twins at Indians

Big Pelf faces Corey Kluber.

I don't want to overstate the healing power of baseball here, but I need this game. The last couple of days since Nayasha's death have been harsh as reality starts to set in. Baseball, though, brings me together with you folks, with my wife (who's been humoring me by watching more games lately) and with Pat Neshek, who routinely helps me board the train to the next level on Candy Crush Saga (really).

Though I'm not totally hopeless, I doubt we'll stick this close to .500 much longer, specifically with Pelfrey up there. Still, I need this game, and I'm anxious for it to start.

Go Twins. Surprise me a little.

  1. I'm in a hilariously small hotel room tonight. It has a vending machine with beer in it, but I don't have any cash. D'oh.

Also, its 2 am and I can't sleep, but I do have Yankees-A's on tv.

    1. Plouffe-da! Sweet!

Edit: Accidentally jammed this in the tiny hotel room with cheaps -sorry dude!

      1. I probably should have emailed you as soon as I knew I was going to have to spend a night here. Its too late now, since I'm heading back to the airport in about three hours.

          1. I'll be on the lookout.

Heh, it looks like there is a konbini attached to this hotel.unfotunately, I was too travelweary to explore.

    2. If you get to a bar and have Soba noodles, get the raw Wasabi root and use the scraper to pile it into your bowl. Booom!!

  2. So far, so good. Chelsea beat ManU right before this game started and everything, and I have my first Sunday off in probably a couple of months.

  3. strikeout and a walk for Mauer so far. I expect a HR in the next at bat.

    1. I thot it was weird they had beer vending machines on the street.

  4. Wait. Bremer admitting that errors and fielding percentage might not be the best way to determine good fielding teams? Coomer saying that even though Detroit has the best fielding percentage in the league, he wouldn't consider them an average fielding team? That was bordering on mildly insightful.

    1. Wow. So, progress, or did he go on to make some bizzare conclusion anyway?

      1. No weird conclusions, though the third out happened fairly shortly after the above conversation, so they never really had a chance to follow up on it.

  5. Dick bemoaning that errors "can be a misleading stat". A week after pointing out that Detroit has done well defensively, he now says they aren't despite not having many errors.

  6. why didnt Plouffe just leave his glove on the ground and let the runner slide into it?

  7. Dick stumbles upon a key point in catcher framing and Coomer replies with yeah, duh. Neither realize they are discussing a huge component of what makes catchers good catchers.

  8. Trivia question in Cleveland: Name the three active players with multiple batting titles.

    Spoiler SelectShow

For as few as they have, I guess that was pretty easy.

  9. Huh. Willingham stopped after rounding second and then ran to third. Looks like he was only looking at the right fielder after stopping.

  10. Deduno's first start and nothing has changed:

    Josh Whetzel ‏@JoshWhetzel
    Deduno out after 5 innings. His line: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 SO. 89 PITCHES. 51 strikes.

  11. I don't think I need to see Pelf back out for the sixth inning- be happy with the five good innings, Gardy.

    1. The way he'd been pitching, I was okay with it. That could have changed, but... yeah, I'm typing this after he had a great inning, so...

      1. I'd like to repeat the sentiment for the seventh inning, just to get it on the record.

        1. And after Roenicke's first couple of batters faced, I think I'd like to go back to Pelfrey.

  12. I dislike Nick Swisher, but he uses Black Keys 'Gold on the Ceiling' as walk up music.

      1. I admire his charity work, and would love for him to be on the Twins. But it seems like everytime its a 'clutch' situation he jacks a homer against a poor Twins pitcher. And yeah, White Sox, Yankees, Tribe..puke

  13. Wild finally get a game on NBC mothership, and its preempted by an overtime game.

  14. ESPN Stats & Info ‏@ESPNStatsInfo
Mike Pelfrey: season-high 7 K through 6 IP for Twins.
He entered the day with a total of 7 K in 5 starts THIS SEASON

  15. One of the most annoying things about Gameday is that it doesn't allow watching video highlights between innings.

  16. Morneau needs to work on the bunting a bit more. I applaud the thought though.

  17. And the ticker at the bottom says James had 120 of the 121 first-place votes for the NBA MVP. I wonder who didn't vote for him.

  18. Agent Smith splits into 5 agents like in the Matrix and makes a special play.

    1. Provii just in the middle of a rambling comment on how quiet Santana's bat has been.

  19. Mike Pelfrey will be comeback player of the year! We're still on track for 148-14!
