ROCHESTER 8, COLUMBUS 2 IN COLUMBUS

Batting starsChris Colabello was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run (his seventh), scoring twice.  Clete Thomas was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his fifth and sixth) and three RBIs.  Jeff Clement was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his first and second) and three RBIs.

Pitching starsLiam Hendriks struck out five in six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks.  Caleb Thielbar pitched two shutout innings, giving up only a walk.  Luis Perdomo struck out two in a scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Rohlinger was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk scored twice.  Matt Lawson was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jeremy Hermida was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The score was tied at one.  With one out, Colabello singled and Clement hit a two-run homer to give the Red Wings a 3-1 lead.  The Clippers would never be closer than two runs again.

Pitching starTrevor May pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Charlie Haeger struck out eight in five innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit and four walks.  Will Latimer pitched three shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.  Tony Thomas was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The score was tied at one.  Edgar Ibarra, in his second inning of work, gave up a leadoff walk to J. C. Linares, then threw two wild pitches to send Linares to third.  Intentional walks to Thomas and  Michael Almanzar filled the bases with none out.  Jose Gonzalez came in to pitch and promptly walked Kolbrin Vitek to force in the winning run.

ST. LUCIE 10, FORT MYERS 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 3-for-4 with a home run (his tenth), scoring twice and driving in four.  Matt Koch was 3-for-4.

Pitching starNelvin Fuentes struck out five in two innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Aderlin Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in four.  Dustin Lawley was 2-for-4 with two double and two RBIs.  Robbie Shields was 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.

Key inning:  The fifth.  St. Lucie led 4-3.  T. J. Rivera led off with a single and went to third on a double by Shields.  A sacrifice fly scored Rivera and a single by Rodriguez drove in Shields to make it 6-3.  The Miracle would get no closer.  The runs came off Tom Stuifbergen, who gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings.

SOUTH BEND 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN SOUTH BEND (11 INNINGS)

Batting starsByron Buxton was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a walk.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Tyler Grimes was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Pitching starTyler Duffey pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Kevin Medrano was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two walks, scoring three times.  Ryan Court was 2-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs.  Steve Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Kernels led 5-2 and Josh Burris, in his second inning of work, was trying to close out the victory.  Three walks loaded the bases with one out.  Tim Atherton came in and allowed a run on a wild pitch.  A sacrifice fly brought in another to make it 5-4.  Another walk put runners on first and third and Socrates Brito singled to tie the score.  South Bend would eventually win in the tenth on two more walks, a wild pitch, and a single.
