TOLEDO 1, ROCHESTER 0 IN TOLEDO

Batting starChris Colabello was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starAndrew Albers pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Derek Hankins pitched seven innings, allowing four hits and three walks.  Argenis Diaz was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The eighth.  It was a scoreless tie.  With two out and none out, Brandon Douglas walked and scored all the way from first on a single to right by Diaz.  The run came off Tim Wood.

NEW BRITAIN 11, NEW HAMPSHIRE 6 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Batting starsJosmil Pinto was 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run homer (his sixth), scoring three times.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and two walks, scoring three times.  Danny Santana was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in two.

Pitching starsA. J. Achter pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Jose Gonzalez pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Sean Ochinko was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Kevin Nolan was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Ryan Schimpf was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Rock Cats trailed 5-4.  Pinto and Rodriguez opened the inning with singles.  With one out, Santana hit a two-run triple to put New Britain in front and scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Rock Cats a 7-5 lead.  They scored four in the ninth to put the game away.

FORT MYERS 7, TAMPA 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsEddie Rosario was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-1 with three walks and scored once.

Pitching starsD. J. Baxendale struck out ten in seven innings, giving up three hits and no walks.  Adrian Salcedo struck out three in two innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Dan Mahoney struck out two in three shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Miracle had scored in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead before breaking through with four in the fourth.  Murphy and Rosario each contributed an RBI double, Miguel Sano drove in one with a single, and one scored on a wild pitch.

CEDAR RAPIDS 12, SOUTH BEND 4 IN SOUTH BEND

Batting starsDalton Hicks was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring three times and driving in one.  Adam Brett Walker II was 3-for-5 with a double and a grand slam homer (his seventh), scoring twice and driving in five.  Candido Pimentel was 3-for-5 and scored twice.

Pitching starManuel Soliman struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up no hits and three walks.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Court was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  Fidel Pena was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Pedro Ruiz was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Silver Hawks had come back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the score at four.  The Kernels opened the inning with singles by Pimentel, Jorge Polanco, and Hicks to load the bases with none out.  Walker then hit a rally-killing grand slam to put Cedar Rapids up 8-4.  The Kernels had three four-run innings, the first, the fifth, and the ninth.

  1. Is anyone else starting to feel sorry for the teams that have to play against Fort Myers?

    I would expect the winning will slow down once some of the players start getting moved up, but if they kept up their 24-6 pace, their record would easily exceed most of the teams on MiLB's top 100 list, most of which are from far earlier eras. The latest teams to make the list were the '92 Greenville Braves (100-43; Chipper Jones and Javy Lopez) and the '92 Columbus Clippers (95-49; Bernie Williams, Brad Ausmus, J.T. Snow).
