2013 Game 41: Minnesota at Atlanta

I'm trying to imagine what it must be like to have a a tornado more than a mile wide with winds up to 300 miles per hour bearing down on you. The worst of the storm that devastated Moore, OK went south of where my Oklahoma City relatives live, and it's a bad one. Best wishes to everyone in the storm's path.

After a pretty miserable home stand against teams with stocking fetishes, the Twins take to the road for a little interleague play. The last time the Twins played the Braves in Atlanta the two teams were locked in an epic and immortal clash of talent and will to claim the world championship of baseball. This series doesn't promise to hold the same level of drama and intensity as that one.

To start this one off the Twins will trot Kevin Correia to the mound. With a a 4-3 record and a 3.35 ERA he's been as solid a starting pitcher as we have so far this year, and with all his time in the National League he should be able to avoid looking completely lost with a bat in his hand. The Braves send Julio Teheran to the mound tonight. Just 22 years old, Teheran has posted a 14-to-1 K/BB rate in his last 25 innings pitched, which would seem to indicate a decent level of control. We'll see.

Play ball!

  1. I predict this goes exactly like the '91 series--the home team wins every game.

      1. Oh...hmmm...what I meant to say is: Jack Morris will throw a 10 inning shutout.

  2. Apparently, DRS says Andrelton Simmons has saved 12 runs in the field in a quarter of the season. Something tells me that is probably a bit high. UZR claims a more reasonable 5 runs.

      1. Jeter's fielding runs is equal to the combined fielding runs of the next two players behind him.

  3. B.J. Upton and Dan Uggla strike out in 33.8% of their plate appearances. Correia strikes out 10.1% of batters this season. So far, Correia wins.

  4. I spookied the hell out of that Uggla dinger. I had a crap day so I'm glad this game got out of hand before I even got home!

  5. My computer doesn't want to open up Gameday tonight. Evidence of artificial intelligence, maybe?

  6. DicknRoy so bored with this game, they have spent at least 5 straight minutes talking about 1987

    1. ok, one funny moment. FSN was showing clips from the 87 celebration, and they showed Joe Niekro at the mic and he whipped out an emery board.

  7. Yes, good thing the Twins have another lefty pitcher since Perkins is The Closer.

  8. I missed the game, but from the reports, it sounds like a group of terrorists from Tehran launched a surprise attack on Minnesota, wiping out Kevin Correia and the Twins' offense. It was a loss, no doubt about it. But this is America, and when we're attacked, we come back hard and strong! The Twins fired a warning shot in the ninth inning, but tonight we launch our campaign of shock and awe! I would not want to be in those terrorists' shoes, I can tell you that. We'll just have to settle for 139-23!
