Minor Details: Games of 6/5

A good game for Cole DeVries.  Big games for Byron Buxton and Jorge Polanco.  The DSL Twins get their first win.

ROCHESTER 4, GWINNETT 2 IN GWINNETT (8 INNINGS--RAIN)

Batting starsOswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.  Doug Bernier was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching starCole DeVries gave up two runs on nine hits and a walk in seven innings.

Opposition stars:  Cole McCurry struck out three in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks.  Jose Yepez was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Red Wings led 3-2.  Ex-Twin Joe Beimel (he's still around?) came in to pitche for the Braves.  Ray Olmedo led off with a single, took third on a throwing error, and scored on a squeeze bunt by Danny Lehmann.  In the bottom of the inning, the first batter was retired before the rains came.

RICHMOND 3, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN RICHMOND

Batting starsJosmil Pinto was 2-for-3 with a home run, his tenth.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with a double and scored once.

Pitching starB. J. Hermsen retired all four batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  Jack Snodgrass pitched 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits.  Adam Duvall was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once.  Andrew Susac was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The score was tied at one.  Starter Pat Dean gave up a one-out walk.  He got the second out, but consecutive singles by Susac, Ehire Adrianza, and Ryan Lollis produced two runs to make the score 3-1.

BREVARD COUNTY AT FORT MYERS

Rained out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 14, QUAD CITIES 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starsByron Buxton was 5-for-6 with a double and two triples, scoring three times and driving in one.  Jorge Polanco was 4-for-6 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once and driving in four.

Pitching starsAlex Muren pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and a walk.  Tim Atherton struck out one in a perfect inning.  Caleb Brewer struck out one in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Rio Ruiz was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Roberto Pena was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The River Bandits led 3-1.  A walk, a stolen base, and a failed fielder's choice put runners on first and second with one out.  Carlos Correa singled to make it 4-1.  A walk loaded the bases and an infield out made it 5-1.  In the bottom of the inning, the Kernels came roaring back with ten runs.  They sent fifteen batters to the plate, getting nine singles and three doubles.  It's hard to pick out "key hits", but Hicks drove in the tying run with a double and Adam Brett Walker II doubled in the go-ahead run.  Candido Pimentel and Polanco each had two singles in the inning and Buxton had a double and a single.

DSL TWINS 7, DSL WHITE SOX 2 AT WHITE SOX

Batting starsEddy Concepcion was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.  Junior Amarante was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Joel Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Starter Alexis Tapia struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Ramses Herrera struck out two in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Jhon Silva struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Wilmy Rodriguez pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out three.  Jhan De Jesus was 2-for-3.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The White Sox had just scored two in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead.  In the eight, Luis Gonzalez was hit by a pitch with one out and Carlos Martinez singled.  Jorge Parra then hit a two-run triple to put the Twins back in front.  The Twins then got four in the ninth to put the game away.

  1. Arcia now has .315/.425/.616 line at Rochester. I wonder if he really has much more to learn there.

    1. It's obvious the Twins want him to learn the outfield, as that was the reason Clete came back.
