Game 61: Twins vs. Phillies

Cole "lots of losses" Hamels (2-9, 4.56 ERA) vs. PJ "not the answer" Walters (2-1, 3.00 ERA)

I'm gonna go ahead and call PJ's 3.00 ERA misleading as I don't think he's pitched particularly well. Certainly not as well as maybe someone who's name rhymes with Pile Fibson might have been able to pitch. Basically,Β I kind of just want the Twins to promote and start the guys who are probably going to be the team in 2015. Get em some experience prior to their epic World Series run.

The Phillies are coming off of getting the tar beat out of them by the Brewers, who we all know are completely terrible. So, really , I completely expect the Twins to win all of these games, because losing 3 out of 4 to the Brewers means you are not good.

More importantly, I'm stuck in Toledo this week. Toledo is not at all exciting, which means its probably the perfect place for me. But hell, I can get un-exciting back home. The highlight so far has been walking past the Toledo Mud Hens stadium, which is pretty cool. Its a shame they aren't in town this week so I could go to a game. The second highlight was last night at the bar we ate at when I ordered a Guinness/Torpedo black and tan and the bartender wondered what it should be called. She immediately suggested "Missle", which I thought was pretty great. Also, it was pretty tasty.

  1. Meanwhile, my hotel is right across the street from the CWS stadium; I'm here a week early because I can actually get a hotel room this week.

Rowsdower, I'm camped at DJ's Dugout if you were completely bored. Sorry, late notice

  2. Revere has four doubles and one triple this year. I liked him plenty in center field, but not going to miss the zero power.

    1. at a grad party 2 weekends ago overheard a guy talking about Joe Mauer making too much money and didnt hit enough HRs (really? this is still a thing?) and the Twins could have used the money to keep Span and Revere and Wilson Ramos (!)and bought some pitching.

Since I didnt know the guy I didnt butt in and say Mauer would hit more HRs in a season than Span and Revere combined.

    1. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino
Leadoff single for Jamey Carroll snaps 0 for 24. Had been 3 for 49 (.061) since 3-hit game in DET. BABIP was .071 in that span. #crazylow

    1. Earlier in the year, I disabled Scout and it stayed off. Then they moved the little gear icon and now the damn thing rises from the dead every time I reload Gameday.

    1. He's missed a couple, recently. I think he still digs out an above-average amount of poor throws, though.

        1. I thought he should have had the one yesterday(?) on the two-hop throw from Florimon, too. Hopefully he's just missing a couple and not having vision trouble or anything.

  3. So since I've been back they've done nothing but hit. Sorry for not coming back earlier guys.

          1. More interesting than Clete, anyhow.

For some reason, I really wish this was a milestone post.

  4. Clete Thomas doesn't seem to have much sense of what he can and can't get to in center field.

    1. I mocked Deibinson Romero and now he's looking pretty good. Maybe Walters needed some negative encouragement as well.

  5. Gardy keeps going to Duensing. He has way more faith in him getting a crucial out than I do.

  6. Casey Fien vs LHB this year: 32 PA .148 BA
Brian Duesning vs LHB: 49 PA .277 BA

    1. Casey can't be called on to get every relief out before the ninth inning.
Gardy has tried that before with Rincon, Neshek, and Guerrier, and it eventually didn't work out.

    1. If he had retired Morneau, I had this comment composed:
      "He killed Kenny the Rally!"

    2. I was so prepared to say, "Oh my God! He killed Morneau!"

But then Mountie ruined it by driving in the go ahead run.

  7. whats missing on that FSN poll question is Aaron Hicks robbing a HR from Adam Dunn

  8. Twins win! USA wins! Spurs win! A perfect night! On the way to a perfect rest-of-the-season! We're still on track for 129-33!
