  1. Okay, Kyle, you've got some runs. Let's make them stand up.

Better yet, of course, would be "let's make then stand up, then get some more."

  2. 69 pitches to get 3 outs. ooof
although it looked like the ump was squeezing Davis this inning

  3. Gibson in his first mound visit: "Okay. *nods*. Okay. *nods*. Okay. *nods*. Yep. *nods*. Okay."

    1. Good play, but Carroll shouldn't have tried for two. Looked like it could be a double, but bounced off the wall to Gordon, who got there quickly. The throw beat him and Tejada tagged him out several feet in front of the bag.

  4. So, I turn the game on and I'm immediately treated to conversation #24601 about how awesome baseball used to be. Dick and Bert are honestly the anti-ambassadors of the sport.

    1. One of the things that bugs me most is when people think the only way they can make the old days sound good is by running down the current game. I love hearing stories about the history of baseball. I love hearing about the old days. But don't do it by telling me that the current game stinks. Why can't we love both?

  5. Nice K there.

We were supposed to go to This tonight with some friends at Real Art Ways, but it's been cancelled and how they are playing This.

    Nothing could be more different.

    1. Went to the second This.

      Good music, Chilean bohemiana.

      Spoiler SelectShow
  6. Section T keeps trying to start the wave. Sections U and S are having nothing to do with it. I'm with U.

  7. Have been travelling a lot the last 4 weeks - Minnesota, NoCar/SoCar, New York City, Chicago, Poughkeepsie.

Glad to be home and get the lawn mowed - garden is a disaster (but I have my first tomato on the vine, string beans ready).

  8. Bert: "Kyle pitching a quality start with six strong innings. I wanted seven, because that's what I think a quality start is."

Alright, I think that "Earned Run Average" is a buddy comedy starring Janet Reno and the bassist from Faith No More. Redefining statistics is fun!

      1. Absolutely, but it does have set parameters.

...and nothing is "save-level" stupid, is it? There has to be something dumber out there, but ever since GWRBI went away, I'm not sure there is. Wins are up there, I guess.

        1. well, the stats are equivalently stupid. Not the stats' fault that managers think that Saves are All That and a Bag of Chips.

  9. The Gentlemen have so many good starters that they can afford to use Hochevar as a Groundskeeper?

    1. Ho-Shaver was 8-16, 5.73 last year. His peripherals were obviously better, but I think most teams will still be alarmed by numbers like that.

      1. right. And this season, they have given 16 starts to Jeremy "Jeremy" Guthrie (5.76 FIP, 5.09 xFIP).

        1. Bad news for him going forward. Yeesh, is he that bad now? I suppose I should have known, since even the Twins got over the hump and beat him up this year.

          1. last year, Hochevar was 4.63/4.32, belying that 5.73 ERA. and last year, Guthrie was 5.10/4.75, to go with his 4.76 ERA.

            1. Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I'm certainly not saying the Royals made the right decision - I'm just not surprised they did what they did.

  10. This continues the season-long running gag where I see most of game, but miss all of the Twins runs. Well, I'll still take that over a loss...

  11. Kyle Gibson won't lose a start all season! Of course, neither will any other Twin. We're still on track for 121-41!
