Minor Details: Games of 6/28

Big days by Chris Colabello and Miguel Sano aren't enough.  Elizabethton wins its seventh straight.  Nick Blackburn conquers the Gulf Coast League.

INDIANAPOLIS 4, ROCHESTER 2 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting star:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his nineteenth and twentieth.

Pitching star:  Aaron Thompson pitched two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Andrew Lambo was 2-for-2 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.  Brett Carroll was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Jose Tabata was 2-for-3 with a double.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The score was tied at one.  In the top of the inning, Colabello led off with his second homer of the game to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Lambo drew a one-out walk, followed by back-to-back homers by Jared Goedert and Carroll to put the Indians in front 4-2.

Prospect watch:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4.

READING 6, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his fifth and sixth), driving in five.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Daniel Turpen struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Seth Rosin pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.  Tyson Gilles was 4-for-5 with two home runs.  Edgar Duran was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Phillies led 5-2.  In the top of the inning, they added an insurance run on two singles and a sacrifice fly.  They needed it, because in the bottom of the inning, Nate Hanson hit a one-out single, Pinto walked, and Sano hit a three-run homer, his second homer of the game, to make it 6-5.  The next two batters went out to end the game.

Prospect watch:  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Trevor May struck out six in five innings, but gave up four runs on five hits and a walk.

FORT MYERS AT JUPITER

The game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning.  There was no score, but the Hammerheads had runners on first and second with one out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BURLINGTON 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Travis Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his thirteenth), scoring twice and driving in four.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his twelfth.  J. D. Williams was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Josue Montanez struck out four in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Steven Gruver struck out two in a perfect inning.  Madison Boer pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits.

Opposition star:  Kevin Moesquit was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The first.  it was a scoreless tie.  Williams led off with a single, followed by a Niko Goodrum double and a two-run double by Harrison.  With one out, Walker II hit a two-run homer to give the Kernels an early 4-0 lead.

Prospect watch:  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double.  Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 8, PRINCETON 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a home run, his first, and scored twice.  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Yorman Landa struck out seven in five innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Kuo Hua Lo struck out two in two innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Brandon Peterson struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Jacob Faria struck out six in five shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 1-0, the Twins scored seven times.  Two singles and a balk scored the first run.  Zach Granite singled in the second.  A walk and a wild pitch put runners on second and third, and Rory Rhodes hit a two-run double.  Mitch Garver singled, and with two out Jake Proctor and Pimentel hit back-to-back doubles to bring in three more runs.

Prospect watch:  Rhodes was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Granite was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL RED SOX 2 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Jorge Fernandez was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Adonis Pacheco was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Jason Kanzler was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Nick Blackburn struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Miguel Gonzalez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Aneudis Peralta was 2-for-4 with a double.  Deiner Lopez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  Pacheco led off with a double, was bunted to third, and scored on a Kanzler single.  Kanzler then stole second and scored on a single by Engelb Vielma to give the Twins an early 2-0 lead.

Prospect watch:  Vielma was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-3.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL ORIOLES1 0 AT ORIOLES1

Batting stars:  Francis Mateo was 3-for-5 with a home run (his first) and three RBIs.  Eddy Concepcion was 2-for-3 with two walks and a triple, driving in two.  Joel Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Elias Villasana pitched four innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Eduardo Del Rosario struck out four in three innings, giving up no hits and two walks.  Ezequiel Zarzuela pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Alexander Mercedes was 2-for-3.

Key inning:  The second.  The Twins led 1-0.  With one out, a walk and two singles loaded the bases.  A two-out walk forced in a run and Mateo singled in two more to give the Twins a 4-0 advantage.
