  1. 150 years ago today... the siege of Vicksburg ended. The Union had control of the Mississippi.

    1. Nice pickup.

...has it really been seventeen years since I saw that silly thing in the theaters? I still distinctly remember the buzz after the Super Bowl commercial that showed nothing but the exploding White House.

      1. Seventeen years?? Whoa. I thought it was crazy when Jurassic Park had its 20 year, but Independence Day feels like it came out a looong time after that.

      2. That was in the theaters when a blackout hit much of the western United States. The myth that I remember was that some people were watching the movie and the aliens had just attacked when the theater went dark. It affected such a large area, it was probably true somewhere.

    1. Hmm. I enjoyed his success when he had it because I'm pretty sure he was a non-prospect AAA filler.
But I don't expect him to contribute going forward, and if the Twins are relying upon him every fifth day, I won't expect them to improve.
If another team wants him, they should take him, and I wish him the best of luck. (Unless its the Yanquis that claim him.)

      1. Oh, gosh, yes. The punch scene (that I apparently misremembered) still makes me smile, though.

I probably haven't seen that movie since the '90s and I'm not actually certain I've seen it since the theater.

        1. alien invasion movies that turn on incredibly-advanced aliens being morons AND defeatable by ragtag irregulars are annoying. noisy explosions in the vacuum of space are insulting.
